PorteuX - The Next Experience

Post#16 by Vic » 09 Mar 2023, 02:11

Yes but a very long time ago. I have made a few PEs from my XP PRO disk but then Win 7 came along and I was wowed. Then I found Linux and all that implies.

Lately I only dabble in Windows land and am called upon now and again to try to rescue some desperate friend or relative.

Is there something cool you know that most do not?

Thanks for your help and interest in my project.

Is there a possibility for a dedicated section for Porteux? I checked but did not find one.

I can see this thread getting too big for it's britches. I know that I will have more questions as time goes by.

Thanks Fulalas.

Well, I guess it could be moved to here: Porteus derivatives but then people might not see it.

Hi Ed.

If I start a new topic concerning Porteux where would you recommend it go?

Hi Vic,

If you want it to be seen by people signing on write the new topic in this section and put PorteuX in the title.

Bart's forum is where I learned to create bootable CDs and then bootable ISOs. I still have that pc where I multi-boot XP and 7. :)

Added in 1 hour 49 seconds:
BTW Vic, with the PorteuX files copied to a USB drive it Fails to Execute the Login Command when I try to boot it.

Hi Ed.

Bart's forum and Knoppix were my first experience. I was wowed.

So far I have only placed the files on a FAT32 partition and an EXT4 partition. USB still to be tested.

Thanks for your input.

Porteus has lower drawing performance than APortues.

Would you tell me the performance of PorteusX
that will be measured by "hardinfo" command "Benchmarks --> GPU Drawing".

[My PC environment results]
1. 64 bit XFCE Desktop: PorteusV5.0-MULT_ja-23.02.16-x86_64.iso
Japanese locale modules for Porteus (Post by neko #59353)

-GPU Drawing-

2. 64 bit XFCE Desktop: APorteus-XFCE_ja-v23.03.08-x86_64.iso
ArchLinux packages manager for Porteus (Post by neko #36689)

-GPU Drawing-

Thanks.

"hardinfo" in PorteuX

Post#25 by neko » 12 Mar 2023, 21:37

@Blaze, @Ed_P
If applications of Porteus V5.0 abailable be used in PorteuX,
you can use use "hardinfo" in PorteuX
by porting "004-hardinfo.xzm & 004-hardinfo64-patch.xzm"
from PorteusV5.0-MULT_ja-23.02.16-x86_64.iso to PorteuX.

PorteusV5.0-MULT_ja-23.02.16-x86_64.iso
Japanese locale modules for Porteus (Post by neko #59353)

Thanks.

I can not post in PorteuX thread.

@Blaze, try this module here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/7ih31cg0 ... 6_64-1.xzm

@neko, it's interesting because on my machine the results are the opposite. Take a look:

Xfce (no compositor):
aporteus xfce 4.18 -> 9,728.52
porteus 5 xfce 4.16 -> 30,953.96
porteux 0.1 xfce 4.12 -> 31,766.83
porteux 0.1 xfce 4.16 -> 31,202.01
porteux 0.1 xfce 4.18 -> 31,010.10

Gnome (compositor):
fedora 37 gnome 43 -> 2,574.30
porteux 0.1 gnome 42 -> 7,069.33
ubuntu 22.04 gnome 42 -> 6,387.72

Gnome (compositor / nvidia driver):
pop_os 22.04 gnome 42 -> 21,551.85
porteux 0.1 gnome 42 -> 27,759.73

Bonus (nvidia driver):
porteux 0.1 xfce 4.12 -> 55,138.77

Porteus and PorteuX have basically the same performance and they beat everybody else :)

Does it need neko's 004-hardinfo64-patch.xzm module?

@Ed_P, GTK2 is missing. You can download it from the bundles or Slackware repository.
