Actually I found the source earlier.
So why the heck doesn't the Manage Printing desktop function work?
Something is messed up in the porteux print module.
And if I enter /usr/bin/xdg-open http://localhost:631/admin/ in a terminal window it works!Ed_P wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 19:11From the Manage Printing app in Porteus 5.0:

Code: Select all
guest@porteux:~$ /usr/bin/xdg-open http://localhost:631/admin/

hi Ed_P you have to add admin to the /usr/share/applications/cups.desktop and when you click on print manager cups web is on the screen
[Desktop Entry]
Categories=System;Printing;HardwareSettings;X-Red-Hat-Base;
Exec=/usr/bin/xdg-open http://localhost:631/admin
Icon=cups
StartupNotify=false
Terminal=false

Hi Beny. An interesting solution but I don't have to do that when I use the gtk plugin Blaze suggested.
Is that cups.desktop part of porteux's print module? The version in Blaze's 007 print module doesn't have a problem.
Added in 2 hours 16 minutes 15 seconds:
Yup, it is. And yup adding admin to it's Exec= line works.

That's correct. The file structure can't be changed.seed_clapper wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 09:04I assume that porteuX indiscriminately searches for "porteux" folder in all connected drives and completely ignores ventoy's emulated optical drive.
There was a bug in Xfce 4.16+ that was preventing activated modules to show up in the main menu automatically. It has been fixed in PorteuX 0.4.seed_clapper wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 09:04My first impressions.

After downloading Firefox and OnlyOffice they were activated automatically but did not appear in start menu until reboot.
Tearing is indeed annoying. It depends on which DE and video card you're using. LXDE and LXQt don't have compositor, so you need to change the driver configuration. For Nvidia that's easy, but for AMD and Intel you need to edit xorg config file. Let me know which setup you have so I can help you.seed_clapper wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 09:04Screen tearing issue while playing videos on my old integrated Intel gpu. To resolve issue picom 9, libconfig 1.7.3, libev 4.33 were downloaded. After converting to modules and activating you need to run it from start menu, open config file located at "/etc/picom.conf" and change 'backend = "xrender"' to 'backend = "glx"', save config.
What exactly you want to achieve? Out of the box mpv can basically open anything and it has support for multi track audio, subtitles, DVDs, album cover. If you press 'i' it can also show information about the current media, not to mention the shortcuts to do almost everything. Vlc is not as powerful (especially performance wise) and it requires Qt being anything but lightweight.seed_clapper wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 09:04Mpv is a great video player if you have a patience to sit down and read manual, edit configs, search scripts for enhancing functionality etc. But VLC just works out-of-the-box.
Have you tried PorteuX wifi scripts? It has wifi-connect which should be enough to connect to a hidden ssid wifi network -- although I haven't tried this specific scenario.seed_clapper wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 09:04LXQT in my opinion is the best choice for old pc with weak cpu and low memory. But there is no easy way to connect to wi-fi with hidden ssid. You must right-click on network connection tray icon, select "Edit connection", create profile for your hidden wi-fi spot, run command line and execute "nmcli con up _profile_name_".

@seed_clapper, here's an example of how vlc is just not as straightforward as mpv:

No help is needed. I am using lxqt on old laptop with Intel Pentium T4200 cpu (dual core 2Ghz, SSE3) & gpu is Intel GMA 4500M (400Mhz, DirectX 10, dxva only in 8-bit avc up to 1080p30fps).
User-friendliness. VLC is ready-to-use and MPV is configure-it-yourself. Maybe I have bias but vlc plays 1080p hevc video a little bit smoother than mpv on my old laptop.
HDR-to-SDR converting is a great feature but I highly doubt that people use PorteuX with intent to watch their hdr movie collection.

@seed_clapper, I actually find this player/codec topic very interesting and I'm open for changes.
In my experience mpv is easier to put hardware acceleration to work (in Porteus/PorteuX it works out of the box) while vlc I always fail to do it. Do you have hardware acceleration in both players? I use this video for testing: https://4kmedia.org/samsung-travel-with ... d-4k-demo/. To confirm that the hardware acceleration is working on mpv I press 'i' and check if at the end of the line that starts with 'Video:' I see 'hwdec'. Also, the CPU usage should be less than 5%. I'm not sure if your video card is capable of decoding it though. You can also try this other video: https://mirror.clarkson.edu/blender/dem ... normal.mp4

No changes needed.
No, my integrated gpu is too old and does not support hardware acceleration for new VP9/HEVC/AV1 formats.
It was able to hwa AVC (h264) in windows but not in porteuX.
Cpu's limit is 1440p30fps for AVC/VP9, 1080p30fps for HEVC/AV1.
I tested 1080p60fps sdr playback using this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXb3EKWsInQ
AVC
mpv - 8401 frames dropped
vlc - 6075 frames lost
mpv - 9189
vlc - 6401
AV1
mpv - 79
vlc - 0
mpv - 305
vlc - 0
mpv - 770
vlc - 126
HEVC: mpv little stuttering close to the end of video, vlc smooth playback.
HEVC 10-bit: mpv little stuttering in several bitrate-heavy sections, vlc strong stuttering close to the end of video.
Mpv provides more stable playback, it says "I will keep playing your video no matter what".
Vlc is a little smoother but it says "I will do my best at most of the time but if something goes wrong just sit and stare at that frozen frame while I am recovering".
