Addendum:
With the change from 0.4 to 1.7
I also changed from Xfce 4.16 to Xfce 4.18.

Could points 1.) and 2.) above be related to this?

@bour59, that's great news! Thanks :)

@Kulle, I can't help you if you don't answer my questions, if you don't provide more information (which version exactly, which application screen you're talking about, are you testing in Always Fresh, etc).

Also, some issues you're reporting seem to be related to the desktop environment (yes, Xfce 4.18 changed some things compared to 1.6), which means it's either a matter of configuration or changes made upstream -- if it's a default you don't like, just go ahead and change it; we can't provide defaults that are going to please all users and that's why things can be changed.

Finally, regarding applications you miss, you can always download them the way I told you in my last post. Again, we can't ship every application users will use otherwise the system would be huge and lose one of its main purposes, which is be minimalist.

Thanks!

Hi porteux,
I had switched from Porteus 5.0 to Porteux 0.4.
I extensively customized Porteux 0.4 to optimally meet my needs, wrote many scripts, added many xzm modules, etc...
The system works perfectly! No problems!
But under PorteuX 1.7, many of my modules no longer work.
For example, I can no longer print and scan.
But even worse, one or more modules are even causing damage.
I have no sound, but in "always fresh" mode, sound is present.
This means I would now have to "reinvent a lot of things again"
But I don't have the time for that

Hi Kulle

Same for me with V01. Tried the rest except for 1.7 and lost functionality of various devices. Not complaining, I am very happy with the first version and have it set up perfectly. Will soon try the latest to see how cool it is.

Thanks to porteux and all involved.

Hi Vik,
I'm not complaining!!

PorteuX 0.4 runs very well on my 10-year-old laptop.
It boots faster than Porteus 5.0

But completely setting up PorteuX 1.7 from scratch would take a lot of time.
And I don't have the time to sit at the laptop continuously to deal with all the little bits for hours.

After all, there are many other beautiful things in life.

That's why I'm sticking with version 0.4 for now until further notice.
And that's okay, right?

Hi Kulle

I hope you do not think I meant you were complaining.

I took 60 screenshots of KDE settings alone that I always change. There are also about 150 modules and scripts that I do not want to modify.

I always make sure all the hardware works before changing to a new version. Plasma 6 might be worth the extra work but I have not tried it yet.

If I change hardware to a newer laptop there might be no choice.

Have fun

Vic

Is there driver/firmware for
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Curacao PRO [Radeon R7 370 / R9 270/370 OEM]?

porteux-v1.7-current-xfce-4.18-x86_64 will not pass run level 4. If I put nomodeset turn out just blinking cursor.

@Otto, I don't have this hardware to test, but maybe Arch documentation can help you. Take a look at section 2.2: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU

Let us know if this fixes your issue.

hi you can edit the porteus.cfg like this: when you boot, at the end you have a prompt to log in, as you wish guest guest or root toor and startx

LABEL text
MENU LABEL Text Mode
KERNEL /boot/syslinux/vmlinuz
INITRD /boot/syslinux/initrd.zst
APPEND changes=/porteux 3

hi porteux,

The multilanguage module for PorteuX is enormous.
How can it be reduced in the simplest way possible if only one language is desired?

You can extract the module and delete the languages you don't want. The file structure is not complex/big.

Let's say you only want es_ES, so go to /usr/lib/locale and /usr/lib64/locale and /usr/share/locale subfolders and delete all other languages.

Now make a new xzm module out of the main folder.
