Tint2 panel taskbar setup for sore eyes

Post#1 by nanZor » 05 Apr 2025, 02:03

Who this is for:
Those new to using the Tint2 panel, and simply want things a wee bit larger. It is not meant to be a comprehensive treatise, but just enough to keep grampa here from yelling at clouds about font sizes and such. :)

Objective - mostly to hunt down font options to increase them. The other defaults are fine for now.

Start > Preferences > Tint2 Settings (panel configurator)

If you are on a slower machine, have patience while the current theme options load.
...wait for it...

If they don't load, then hit the hamburger menu in the upper left to bring up the Properties window.

When it *does * load, note this - many options use the mousewheel, and if your thumb is resting on it, you may change defaults you don't wish. Fortunately, one can try (APPLY) what they did if they made a mistake. Or just exit out and start again. AND, to ensure you see all the options (!) maximize this window!
Now you are ready to go on the font-hunt with the Tint2 theme editor open.

PANEL
Change the Size to something larger, like 50 pixels. When I change scales I tend to do it in evenly divisible amounts, like 48 here instead. Nerd-level for me.

TASKBAR
[ ] FONT. Check it, and enlarge your font.

TASK BUTTONS
[ ] FONT. Check it, and change it.

CLOCK
[ ] Font First Line. Again, check and change. Since you have enlarged the panel as above, you have plenty of room to blast that clock font in your face.

BATTERY
Same routine, check and change the fonts if desired.

TOOLTIP
You got it, check and change

======

How about Icon size ?
CLOCK - the default code is 24-hour format %H:%M
If you want a 12-hour clock with am/pm the code is %_I:%M%P

Task Buttons > Maximum Width
Beef that up to 200 or so

Launcher > Icon Size
Increase to 55 or so.

The key for me at least is to first enlarge your Panel Size to 50 pixels or so to accommodate all these other enlargements.
Perhaps save this as "MyFirstTheme" or whatever once you get what you like when you fiddle with it later.

So there you go. Some quickies to get you started with the panel. Other things like Start > Preferences > Customize Look and Feel are pretty self-explanatory. Beef those fonts up too. If your menu seems to run off after enlarging, logout and log back in again.
That's a UNIX book - cool. -Garth
