XFCE 4.12 - can name of created softlink be changed?

Using XFCE 4.12 (I am no fan of 4.14) with Thunar 1.6.18

Could Thunar be tweaked for its menu entry "make link" (that is: softlink)?

I would prefer instead of the link name of the file whatever.extension

Code: Select all

link to whatever.extension
this:

Code: Select all

whatever (link).extension
Usually one moves the link out from the source folder, and then I usually always rename the link back to the original name anyway.
But I would prefer the originally created softlink having the same initial name as the original and not "link to…" since the link is easy to find when the folder view is sorted by "date modified", but when the folder view is anything but and especially in a folder with dozens and dozens of files one would have to either switch to detailed view and select sorted by "date modified", or search for "link to" to find the created link. Since the still highlighted file is the selected original and not the link.

I know one could create a custom action that names the softlink like so… but you have to consider the possibility the new file name already existing… and automatically handling that via script gives me headaches.
Cheers!
