How to uninstall Desktop/ GUI packages from Porteus?

Post#1 by mudit.s » 24 Jan 2020, 12:31

Hi.

I have been using Porteus 3.22 xfce version.

I tried to install Porteus in bootable partition of my sd card but I want to use it with text mode only while removing all desktop/GUI packages and other unnecessary packages because I want to save some more space .

Desktop/GUI packages come under 'xorg.xgm' file . By removing this file can cause X11 server deactivation problem in Porteus.

Please suggest some other ways to remove these GUI and other unnecessary packages without disturbing the core functionality of Porteus.

1.shouldn't need X11 for text mode, you can run with just 000-kernel and 001-core(but 002-xorg does have some useful packages)
2.DE packages are in 003-*.xzm not 002-xorg.xzm(though there are some basic gui packages)
what's useful/unnecessary or not depends on what you want to do in text mode.. eg. is ffmpeg useful?
check out /mnt/live/memory/images/002-xorg.xzm/var/log/packages to see what's there...
