porteus hdd install on a windows 10 uefi intallation

Post#1 by francois » 08 Feb 2018, 03:28

Out from the windows system for about 10 year. Sorry if I ask alien weird questions.

I am aiming for a porteus hdd install on a windows 10 uefi intallation.

Yet I have reformated the toshiba z930 to make some place for a poteus partitions by using a debian live disk. The installation will not boot into linux.

I do not have the courage to follow the following procedure:
https://www.lifewire.com/dual-boot-wind ... ie-2202088

Is there a simpler way to do this. Here is my partition setup:

Code: Select all

user@debian:~$user@debian:~$ sudo fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 238.5 GiB, 256060514304 bytes, 500118192 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt
Disk identifier: A982906B-E35A-11E2-940E-B86B23A08C17

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sda1 2048 1023999 1021952 499M Windows recovery environment
/dev/sda2 1024000 1228799 204800 100M EFI System
/dev/sda3 1228800 1261567 32768 16M Microsoft reserved
/dev/sda4 1261568 250060799 248799232 118.7G Microsoft basic data
/dev/sda5 250060800 250548223 487424 238M EFI System
/dev/sda6 250548224 330235903 79687680 38G Linux filesystem
/dev/sda7 330235904 437657599 107421696 51.2G Linux filesystem
/dev/sda8 437657600 496250879 58593280 28G Linux filesystem
/dev/sda9 496250880 500117503 3866624 1.9G Linux swap
debian is on sda6 and porteus will be on sda7

porteus hdd install on a windows 10 uefi intallation

A multiboot system I have been using is called Grub2Win. You install it on your Windows system, and it helps create menus for booting numerous systems. It interfaces with EFI but you have to disable EFI's Secure Boot option. When you boot you will get a menu of the systems you've installed. Choose the one you want and it boots.

This does not replace Windows boot loader rather adds to it.
