What i have at hand/build is

kodi-17.1-i486-bundle-don.xzm -- 32 Bit and
kodi-17.3-x86_64-bundle-don.xzm -- 64 Bit
Hello Donald. Thanks so much for your efforts. Could you please make kodi-17.1-i486-bundle-don.xzm -- 32 Bit for download? I tried the other Kodi file but it won't run on my Atom N270 notebook, although Kodi runs fine in just about any other distro. This is the last piece in the puzzle for me and, having spent the entire weekend (and took a day off on Monday!), I just don't have the energy to keep going to make this work. Porteus is, by far, the best OS for my aging 'netbook' but boy, it sure makes you sweat!

Cheers!

Donald,thanks..kodi-64 bit works well but always opens in 'Full Screen' mode.

Keyboard shortcuts for kodi...

https://beebom.com/kodi-keyboard-shortcuts/

A surprise for me, it played 'Full HD videos without any struggle. I checked 'settings' and found it uses. video driver from ,Intel open source centre and not Xorg's driver. This driver from Intel uses Mesa's OpenGL and other libs.(they were listed in Kodi)

Xorg yet to develop the right driver for Intel HD video 620 integrated with Kaby Lake processors. So buying a latest Laptop with current architecture is not a trouble free performance guarantee in Linux. 10 year old laptops can do the hard job.(decoding video info)

@all:
I think that we could increase membership with kodi on porteus as the os is so fast and so light. Maybe we should promote it. :hi:

Does anyone use the latest Kodi Version 17.6 and is willing to share his/her .xzm?

Hi wii07
Which version of porteus do you use?
I have an upgraded - from 17.3 to 17.6 - kodi module for 3.2.2 x86_64 (xfce)
which does not work with porteus 4.0 - but that's a different story.
If you already have/use the 17.3 module you could easily upgrade it to 17.6
How?:
download these files from slackonly/salix:
avahi-0.6.32-x86_64-1dj.txz
kodi-17.6-x86_64-1_slonly.txz
libmicrohttpd-0.9.55-x86_64-1_slonly.txz

Login as root

extract the 17.3 module into /tmp/kodi
(Extracting the module in /tmp creates a folder named like the module.)
Shorten it to kodi

copy
avahi-0.6.32-x86_64-1dj.txz
kodi-17.6-x86_64-1_slonly.txz
libmicrohttpd-0.9.55-x86_64-1_slonly.txz
into this "kodi" folder

open a terminal and cd into /tmp/kodi
now run these commands

Code: Select all

root@porteus:/tmp/kodi# ROOT=/tmp/kodi installpkg avahi-0.6.32-x86_64-1dj.txz
root@porteus:/tmp/kodi# ROOT=/tmp/kodi upgradepkg kodi-17.6-x86_64-1_slonly.txz
root@porteus:/tmp/kodi# ROOT=/tmp/kodi upgradepkg libmicrohttpd-0.9.55-x86_64-1_slonly.txz
root@porteus:/tmp/kodi# rm avahi* kodi* libm*
root@porteus:/tmp/kodi# dir2xzm /tmp/kodi /tmp/kodi_17.6.xzm
done - your 17.6 module is ready...

Since I currently have a very slow internet connection, uploading my module would be a pain.

Donald, thanks for your suggestion; I now have a Kodi 17.6 module which works under Porteus 3.2.2 xfce. Why won't it work under 4.0? Is this a bug?

Hi rchase
...Is this a bug?
Some libraries are newer in porteus 4.0 and kodi 17.6 does not like them,
but this problem can be solved.

IIRC:
I had to add libcdio.so.16.0.0 > link to libcdio.so.16 and
libssp.so.0.0.0 > link to libssp.so.0

These files can be extracted from the gcc-5.3.0-x86_64-3
and libcdio-0.93-x86_64-1 package.
(That's what I have in my notes, maybe I did more, but forgot to write it down)

At least it is possible to build a 17.6 module which runs in 4.0 x86_64 XFCE.
...tried and tested... B)

EDIT
Long story short, try this one - kodi_17.6-x86_64_XFCE-don.xzm
(porteus 4.0 x86_64 - XFCE)

Donald, how about an updated kodi module for Porteus 4.0 x86? I attempted to follow the procedure you outlined above starting with kodi-17.1-i486-bundle-don.xzm (which wouldn´t run under 4.0), but I´m not sure which of the sublibraries (of avahi, e.g.) I should choose to download and include; worse, the only kodi showing up in USM (fully updated) is kodi-16.1-586-1gv.txz.

Hi rchase

It's getting harder .... seems the 32-bit architecture
is in the clearance sale.

However,
I did set up a Porteus 4.0 32bit xfce installation and tried to get Kodi up and running.
Result:
A modified Kodi 17.1 runs and seem to work (without guarantee).
No luck with kodi 17.6..(32 bit)

My i-net connection is very slow and the module weighs 100Mb.
let me know if I should upload it.

I am in possession of kodi-17.1-i486-bundle-don.xzm; if that is what you modified and you can describe the process so that a relative Linux ignoramus can follow, I can try to reproduce your work. I´ĺl post the x86-64 and x86 modules in the modules section with reference to this thread (and with proper attribution, of course).
