I am looking for your expertise concerning security.

Would your porteus installation be more secure with the latest chrome or firefox browser?
And what about adding up the latest kernel?

Opinions but even more facts on these two topics would be appreciated.

Thanks.

hi francois

In general...yes,..and no.
They might fix known security flaws but will also (most likely) introduce
new ones.

However, it is superfluous to talk about browser security as long as users
are willing to use almost-certainly-insecure flash plugins.

rest assured they have the average 5 CVE's per line of code,
you know, that is Adobe coding standards ...

A large step towards security is to disable javaScript
Personally i use the Pale Moon browser + an add-on called "js switch"
which has only one function (button)..to toggle javaScript on/off.

Been using some other toggler on Light and 64 bit., but no toggler on 32 bit. Just installed JsSw, so we're now on the same page. :D One other addon which had been using a while back, lost track of, and found recently is Disallow javascript on current tab. Does not easily show on addons search. Handy if absolutely cannot do without javascript for a certain site, by disallowing on all other tabs.
