^ AFAIK .txz/.tgz. It's a miniscule program in comparison. Jack can provide more pointers as he's been using it lately.

What do you mean?
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

Jack his referring to how to use slackyd. I installed it yesterday to find that it would wouldn't resolve the salix MANIFEST.bz2 file. This brought all operations to a halt. I would like to know if it resolves dependencies for ALL repositories now. For example if I choose a package from slackonly will it resolve dependencies and give you options from all five repos? If this is the case then USM could be considered redundant (apart from the fact that it has a GUI).

To use slackyd just type slackyd and here is a list of what it will do. The only one seem not to be working right to me is Salix but I could be wrong on that.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ slackyd
Usage: slackyd <options> <package>

Options:
 -5: Skip md5 verify.
-b: Try to download package build sources.
-B: Try to build package from sources.
 -c: Use alternate config file.
-d: Search missing shared libraries of installed packages.
-D: Search missing required packages (packager-indicated).
 -e: Use regex.
-f: Force update or packages download. Assume yes to all question.
 -g: Download package.
 -h: Show this help.
 -I: Skip packages status check.
 -l: List all packages installed.
-L: List all non-slackware packages installed.
 -m: Case insensitive.
 -n: Only notify broken dependencies.
 -O: List all orphan packages.
-p: Clean slackyd directory (only packages and sources).
 -P: Clean slackyd directory (all).
 -q: Quiet, disable some warnings.
-r: Search not official replaceable packages.
 -R: Show repositories statistics.
 -s: Search package.
 -S: Skip dependencies check.
-u: Update packages list and md5 hash list.
 -U: Search new packages.
 -v: Verbose mode.
 -V: Show slackyd info.
 -w: View package info.
 -x: Disable blacklist.

After USM had been written, some smart alec would have mentioned that there is already a program doing all USM does, and taken great pleasure in providing a link to slackyd (@francois schadenfreude). AFAIK this has not happened. So rest assured USM is not redundant. 8)

@fullmoonremix
"can it convert to .xzm (txz2xzm) or does it use only .txz"
No, It was written as an alternative to slackpkg from what I remember and is used in managing files in a slackware distro by installing, removing, and upgrading packages. I use slackpkg so I have not had a lot of experience with other features or how to configure.
