hybrid drive

Hi folks,
does anyone know about long time experiences with hybrid drives?
my question: what will happen if the SSD / RAM part fails but the HD part still works? Will the firmware be able to realize what's going on and be able to have kept all data on the HD part so that no data is lost (since the most read data/the most used data will be swapped the most to the RAM part, the lost will affect usually the most needed data as well)
So, will the firmware be able to just act as a drive that is then just a HD, without the SSD/RAM part anymore?
I read some tests and found that issue asked more than once but never got an answer to it...
