Re: NVIDIA 361 Driver
btw if you want make a module from the nvidia driver run the save-changes script,no need if you use in a run system, hardware acceleration in xfce4 you need to active composite i think in kde is the same, but i use xfce4

Re: NVIDIA 361 Driver
hi beny
I am advising to first make the driver in text mode. Once driver made, test it by init 4. If there is no problem, then in AF mode we make driver and save-changes, just like was done the very first time here, when changes module was made. After this we clean up changes module.

because a google search for (asus) gl752vw,(found in the 1st screenshot),
reveals only problems, no solutions.
what seems to be needed to make it work is "bumblebee" and/or "primus"

If you tried to install the NVIDIA driver from NVIDIA website, this is not going to work.

Re: NVIDIA 361 Driver
So I tried installing 367.27 on porteus rc3 with blaclist/xzm, crippled source.xzm and devel.xzm. I replaced the 000-kernel.xzm with the one here
http://ftp.vim.org/ftp/os/Linux/distr/p ... 1-porteus/
too.
Booting with and using the installer as su I get this error on rc3 that I didn't get on rc2! The installer hangs when building kernel modules at 100% then after 20 seconds or so I get this. 3 pics
http://ftp.vim.org/ftp/os/Linux/distr/p ... 1-porteus/
too.
Booting with
Code: Select all
copy2ram init 3

Re: NVIDIA 361 Driver
You can't do it by replacing the kernel module. You have to do a clean 'install' of rc3, the way you first did with rc2, The screen images seem to confirm this, At first glance it looks like you have the rc2 Kernel running with the Kernel modules of rc3.

There is the option of running from ISO file, no 'installation' necessary, my normal mode of operation. Think you were using XFCE. In that case if the iso file Porteus-XFCE-v3.2rc3-x86_64.iso has say been placed on the external drive sdb1, you could use the following boot options: 3 copy2ram from=/dev/sdb1/Path/to/iso/Porteus-XFCE-v3.2rc3-x86_64.iso extramod=/dev/sdc1/porteus/modules
For example: from=/dev/sdb1/iso/Porteus-XFCE-v3.2rc3-x86_64.iso (if have iso files in a directory 'iso')

960M driver
Installing isn't a problem I got another memory stick and installed rc3 on it with the Universal USB Installer from http://www.pendrivelinux.com/, so it is rc3 from Porteus-XFCE-v3.2rc3-x86_64.iso Whether I replace the kernel xzm or not I get that error. I want to install Bogomips, there will already be enough steps to boot as it is haha.

It's weird that the driver installs on old rc2 stick but not on rc3

Re: NVIDIA 361 Driver
Let's get the story and the facts straight:and upload log.zip.
- Porteus rc3 in text mode
- Ran install of 367.27 driver
- Installation program came up with the three error messages shown
- After this you were back at the console prompt
- Placed in modules folder were blacklist.xzm, 05-devel,xzm and crippled_sources.xzm from the links given to you.
Code: Select all
zip log.zip /var/log/*

log.zip
That's right, very weird! Interested to see what the nvidia installer didn't like, here's the log.

Re: NVIDIA 361 Driver
you have the wrong modules path on installer:
/usr/bin/make "CC=cc" KBUILD_OUTPUT=/lib/modules/4.6.1-porteus/build KBUILD_VERBOSE= -C /lib/modules/4.6.1-porteus/source M=/mnt/sdb2/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-367.27/kernel ARCH=x86_64 NV_KERNEL_SOURCES=/lib/modules/4.6.1-porteus/source NV_KERNEL_OUTPUT=/lib/modules/4.6.1-porteus/build NV_KERNEL_MODULES="nvidia nvidia-uvm nvidia-modeset nvidia-drm" INSTALL_MOD_DIR=kernel/drivers/video modules
make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-4.5.3'

this is mine:

i think you have to use not coy2ram or fresh mode for build something like driver or software,or you have an old kernel module.

Re: NVIDIA 361 Driver
Yep guys I didn't need the iso method just reinstalled rc3 and this time didn't replace the kernel.xzm in base folder. The kernel here http://ftp.vim.org/ftp/os/Linux/distr/p ... 1-porteus/ is a little smaller by one megabyte than the one that comes with rc3 and that is what bugged out the nvidia driver install last time. I thought it was more updated which is why I used it before.
So the driver installs in text mode and then in GUI HW acceleration doesn't work out of the box as we expected. What's next?

Soon as installer finishes in text mode (still as root):
Code: Select all
save-changes nvd367.xzm lsmod > lsmod.txt init 4
- GUI
Code: Select all
zip log367.zip /var/log/* lsmod.txt cat /proc/cmdline
- Upload nvd367.xzm and log.zip
- Please also provide hardware spec of the laptop
