Re: Create torrent download with Transmission

Sorry you are right I do have it. I forgot I move where to download the files. I did a search and found it. It must have downloaded fast cause I didn't see it do the download.

Was it hard to setup the torrent? When that day gets here I will be glad to have them on my computer to share to everyone that wants them.

EDIT:

I have a Acer nav50 laptop it not good for much. What I will do is run Porteus Mate 32bit from USB stick and place all the Porteus files on another USB stick. I have a 32GB USB stick and put the 32 and 64 bit version torrent on it. I think it big enough for all of them.
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

it must have uploaded real fast as well. Did not see it uploading. :)

After you had done the groundwork finding the relevant Transmission CLIs, it wasn't so difficult.

We can practise with the rc when it comes along.

While everything's fresh in my mind, I'll make a HOWTO for reference.

Can I have a copy or are you going to post it on the forum? If the member use it, it will help out the forum.

I think Mint Linux torrent is the only way you can get it. Over all I like using torrent that is how I download most of the stuff I get. And the more member that use torrent the faster it will download. Over all Porteus files are small and they should download fast.

I think the largest torrent I have ever downloaded was about 15GB.

^ Normally there are so many copies of the file floating around that it looks like a cloud. However necessary to bear in mind this is essentially file sharing. In practical terms there are only two possible seeders. At the end of the day I switch off my machine, so that leaves only Jack. There is only message time to be seen. So need to check if Jack was running Transmission at around that time. Will shortly be turning off the machine. Be back on in the evening. Interesting that you get tracker error if no one is on line, presumably.

I should have made a screenshot from my first try, then no was was uploading as well, but I got no tracker error...
That should have happened now as well... dunno why it displays the new error now. I cannot even ask the tracker for more/new peers...

//Update
I run Porteus firewall /etc/rc.d/rc.FireWall,and that is blocking port 51413 by default.
I now edited /etc/rc.d/rc.FireWall to allow 51413, but still, when opening transmission preferences, tab network, and click on [test port], I still get the info "port is closed"

I tried looking through https://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/SlowSpeeds and https://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/Po ... rdingGuide but so far to no avail.
Cheers!

When my computer goes in to screen save mode will transmission still work? I don't know for sure if it will work.

EDIT:

Please post if you try it the torrent download.

Looks like it. The caching of video from YT seems to have finished under screen save mode. However I know for sure that under suspend networking stops and then resumes.

@ Rava
Why don't you try and see if you can download something for which there are bound to be lots of leechers and seeds, like maybe one of latest movies 8)

It's quite stupid that there is no test torrent for that purpose, cause usually the torrents with the most leechers and seeds are more or less illegal...

Did anyone of you run the Porteus standard firewall, and did you have to change it?

Most films are usually more than 1GB in lentgth, so one only has to download a few hundred MB to ensure Transmission working ok. Torrent can then be cancelled. AFAIK it's only illegal if one downloads the whole film.

No firewall here.

^
The use of bittorrent is dangerous for us Germans.( in Germany )
While downloading a file one is also simultaneously uploading it.
The upload is what let us become "criminals", even if it is just a single minute.
(copyrighted material -- How can one be sure it is not copyrighted?)
Many lawyers, here in Germany, are looking for such offenses.
If you get caught, it can easily cost by 500 euros, even more.
That's no fun.. :bad:

Seeding at the moment. Save torrent file from cloud, then open with Transmission, Let's see if this confirms that previous upload went ahead without trackers.
