Docker: how should a newcomer to docker make is way to learn.

Post#1 by francois » 06 May 2025, 00:52

Reading some posts on the porteus forum, docker was mention rarely but nonetheless mentioned. I imagine that there is some docker knowledge within the porteus forum.

How should a newcomer to docker make is way to learn and use docker?

There is one thread on installing docker that dates a few years ago of a discussion between beny and testuser. If I am not wrong vinnie did some allustions to docker.
Run Docker in Porteus
I hope they will come back to discuss their experience on docker on porteus.

Alien Bob has built a docker package:

I might try to install docker this way. Meanwhile, I am on docker engine on kubuntu.

I am interested to work and learn with docker engine or Docker CE, and not docker desktop. The difference is explaine in this thread:

At the end of the thread there are hyperlinks to basic concepts to understand and use docker:
Recommended links to learn the basics and concepts:

Yet I have tried a few learning texts and videos.

I would appreciate your impressions on docker and some cues to material to learn the beast.

Thanks.
