Porteus 4.0 on the old Dell.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/home/guest# modprobe configs
root@porteus:/home/guest# zgrep CONFIG_VMD /proc/config.gz
CONFIG_VMD=m
root@porteus:/home/guest#

you can use initrd.xz, vmlinuz and 000-kernel.xzm from 5.0 to 4.0
Thanks babam I've done the latter two but never the initrd.xz. Easy enough to try. :happy62: I'll let you all know how I make out.

Yup, that worked. :good: I think the problem may have been the cfgfile= cheatcode I had last used still had porteus-v5.0 in it. Will try with no cfgfile= cheat code.

But new problem, the Porteus Cinnamon system boots, to a black screen!! :o No DE.

Porteus 5.0

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ cat /etc/profile.d/porteus.sh
export DISTRO=porteus
export BOOTDEV=/mnt/isoloop
export BASEDIR=/mnt/isoloop
export PORTDIR=/mnt/isoloop/porteus
export MODDIR=/mnt/isoloop/porteus/modules
export PORTCFG=/mnt/isoloop/porteus/porteus-v5.0-x86_64.cfg
guest@porteus:~$
Some progress to report.

If I boot the original Porteus 4.0 ISO with the Porteus 5.0 initrd file and the cfgfile= cheatcode Porteus 4.0 boots! :Yahoo!: But with "Running in software rendering mode" and no networking. :wall: With the 5.16.11 and 5.16.15 nucleus from Porteus 5.0 it boots to a black screen.
