P2P VPN - is this possible?

Post#1 by RMorris » 02 Feb 2022, 02:01

Hello all,

I am trying to build a portable USB solution using Porteus Desktop (Cinnamon).
I want to include connection details for a P2P VPN using something like n2n or Tinc.

First question:
Will these (n2n or Tinc) work in Slackware based Portues? Would I have to make an xzm?

Second question:
Because the USB image will be copied, each machine that connects will be the "same". Will this work? I could write a login script prompting users to nominate their hostname, or I could try and write it so that one is dynamically created. I don't want to rely on a server (which I don't have) or a 3rd party service. Ideally just P2P. I'm new to VPN's so not sure if what I am wanting is even possible.

The end result is that I want multiple machines to be able to boot using the USB portues image, connect to wifi wherever they are, and connect to a VPN (preconfigured) with as little user interaction as possible. The purpose is so that users can utilise something like Warpinator for secure filesharing.

I'll be asking this question on the n2n site as well, but would appreciate any feedback / pointers from forum members here.

Thank you,

Richard.
