Install and optimise Porteus v5 on asus t100

Post#1 by benjibasson » 10 Aug 2024, 17:34

Hi,
I would like to use Porteus v05.1 on the asus t100 I have saved from the bin. I plan to use it to do RDP in the plant witch is 100% covered by WiFi.

What is broken? The touch screen glass, windows 8.1

I have added porteus 5.01 i586 on the magic key and it displays the xfce desktop. Unfortunately have no WiFi, no screen dim settings, and suspend freez with screen light on ( so unsupported grafic card and spend probably power.).

I guess one thing at a time - with wifi, do you need to use rfkill to unblock it. Here's what my box shows, although it was unblocked from the start:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ sudo rfkill
Password:
ID TYPE DEVICE SOFT HARD
 0 wlan phy0 unblocked unblocked
If that works, we can move on to brightness, although in other threads about red-shift, you may find an answer there with xrandr. But first, wifi!
That's a UNIX book - cool. -Garth

the F2 or fn F2 doesn't work on Porteus.
whatever if bluetooth and wifi ar locked I should have

Code: Select all

  IF-ID-1: wlan0 state: down mac: 40:16:7e:92:ab:b8
instead of

Code: Select all

Network:
  Message: No device data found.
I think inxi is not accurate because on optilised ubuntu it display
Network:
Message: No device data found.
IF-ID-1: wlan0 state: up mac: 40:16:7e:92:ab:b8
althought I'm connected on my office's wifi

I think there are missing arguments of rfkill because on ubuntu it display ( whatever wlan0 is up or down )

Code: Select all

benjamin@benjamin-T100TA:~$ sudo rfkill
Usage:	rfkill [options] command
Options:
	--version	show version (0.5-1ubuntu2 (Ubuntu))
Commands:
	help
	event
	list [IDENTIFIER]
	block IDENTIFIER
	unblock IDENTIFIER
where IDENTIFIER is the index no. of an rfkill switch or one of:
<idx> all wifi wlan bluetooth uwb ultrawideband wimax wwan gps fm nfc
that mean I didn't put option neither command.

Install and optimise Porteus v5 on asus t100

Post#9 by benjibasson » 27 Oct 2024, 21:18

Hi, I come back because I need to optimise Porteus on the asus t100
I would like to Screen backlight control. unfortunaly

Code: Select all

xrandr --output DSI-1 --brightness <VALUE>
freeze the system and I have to press power 5 seconds

I would like to suspend to ram: unfortunaly the system freeze the system and I have to press power 5 seconds

I have read on debian's wiki this about display

Code: Select all

The integrated GPU Intel HD Graphics, Atom Processor Z36xxx/Z37xxx Series Graphics & Display works out of the box. Make sure to uninstall the driver xserver-xorg-video-intel, as nor it is required nor its usage is recommended.

Hardware Video Acceleration in media players and internet browsers is provided by the i965-va-driver, that should be installed by default and used automatically. Check the page Hardware Video Acceleration for additional details.
I got

Code: Select all

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Atom Processor Z36xxx/Z37xxx Series Graphics & Display [8086:0f31] (rev 09)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:14ed]
	Kernel driver in use: i915
	Kernel modules: i915
does it mean I'm albready using i965-va-driver? and xserver-xorg-video-intel is disable?

cheers
