Instead of building our own documentation we could resort to minimal instructions for nemesis based on arch linux or arch linux and manjaro documentation.

** to be included here **
. how nemesis presents itself: simple, fast, modular etc
. how to install it
. running pman the pacman package manager wrapper for binary packages
.. setup-pman
. additional packages pacaur or aur or

and then orient the interested reader to:

Complete nemesis kit for newcomers (includes a desktop environment):
. basic desktop flavor lxde
. installing another desktop environment as a module
..xfce4
..lxqt
..kde4
..kde plasma5
.. etc.

Base module on which to build your own desktop environment for users with some linux knowledge:
-start reading at install a login manager (don't forget to use pman package wrapper:
https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?titl ... ion_0.8.10

-installing a package manager gui interface pamac for binaries (as module)
**to come**
-installing pacaur or other package builder (as module)

Base module nemesis with the beginners guide to arch linux:

** skip unnecessary info at the beginning**

Thanks Francois. I will put out a basic documentation on what to do to get started with the next release. There are some interesting additions and more ideas in the pipeline.

get-dev (will download the development packages) -- required for pacaur
get-kernel (will update the kernel and firmware)
src2xzm (will extract an installed package)

Keep in mind that the next release will have all porteus names and graphics. You can call it nemesis. If it continues it can be called: Porteus v4.0 Nemesis

Just testing ideas. I do not want to reinvent the wheel. I am really too lazy doc wise. So we are heading for porteus 4.0 nemesis or arch linux version. 8)

Hello guys,
With this post i want to thank You for this great and new project.
I am an old Slax, then Slax-Remix, then Porteus user.
Today I'm experiencing several boot issue with Porteus v3.1 on my new HP Spectre x360 laptop and the only one distro I can boot is Nemesis (only tested the latest testing ISO).
I am understanding that the Porteus project is now over and that the future may be based on Arch.
I hope to find a good documentation to get started on this new modular distro.
Regards,

kalo86

Hello kalo8,

For now the best information available on nemesis is in the how to get it thread of brokenman:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=5066

Nemesis which is to resemble to porteus is in development. However, you can have a look at the bug report and even participate to its debugging if you want:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=5242

As porteus is based on arch Linux, wiki arch Linux your-topic of interest should provide you with all the info necessary to your needs. Otherwise, start a thread in the nemesis section.

Hello to all,

I am able to boot Nemesis v3.1 x86_64 but I am not familiar with Arch.
I am trying to manage how to set the full-hd resolution since it appears to show the vega driver 800x600.
Anyway, a step ahead!

I just tried that release but I am not always able to boot the OS.
I still don't know the reason :Search:
Anyway I'm going to download the ISO and try again with a faster USB 3.0 drive.
I'll post the result here if you want :)

UPDATE: Coping the ISO content on a faster USB 3.0 drive, my laptop finally boots up Porteus Nemesis. Another step has been done! Now comes the good... I have to customize the OS with my packages needed to compile Android.
Usually I used slackyd (like old times) but now I should have to take into account a new procedure.
This will be a long night for me, I just know it!

Thanks beny for the advice, but before doing this I need to figure out how to get the root access or directly autologin into root account.

you have the lxde inside the iso so you can log in as root, the first menu line have the changes actives download also the devel.xzm, you need this for the build of packages with abs that is as slackbuild in slackware.i have removed the lxde because i use xfce4 so i have installed this de,but when you start syslinux the lxde prompt is for user root and password toor you have this prompt?

@kalo86:
Brokenman proposed a solution and so did I:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... &start=120

My solution is:
With persistent mode what is needed is autologin=guest line in /etx/lxdm/lxdm.conf to be changed to
autologin=root

The cheatcode for porteus slackware does not work for nemesis. Cheatcodes are being currently revised by brokenman, but do not work already.

Even better ... log in as guest, and then when you need root type in: sudo -s which will elevate you to root. The password is toor. I imagine you will only need root when you are in a console. All the guis ask you for a root password when they need it.
