Nemesis-20210724 edition bug reports
Hello beny:
I hope you are doing fine.
Just worked fine. I will have to get back to good habits by testing without changes.
Thanks.

yes, well, there are issues with that part of setup-pman, though it looks like you might have an older version mixed up in your changes or something..
at the moment, mirrors should be set(by uncommenting) manually by editing /etc/pacman.d/mirror and mirror-arch..
i'd go further by recommending using the "archived" mirrors that set to the date of the release, especially if it's more than a couple of weeks since release.
to do this(before running setup-pman):
this way, you can install stuff/make modules without pulling in base system updates. i'm thinking i'll make this the default with the next release.

pman doesn't keep the pacman database avoiding from further updating your bundles.

Setting up pman, conflicts with iptables (/etc/local.d/firewall.start must be disabled)
Can we put a .tar.gz file in porteus/rootcopy so it keeps the owner/permissions preserved when dealing with a USB key with a FAT/NTFS partition???
I remember that APorteus allowed if I am not wrong.

no idea why this wasn't working, it was explicitly in the script, although it rely on copying it from the live system(which the package is first installed to before the module is made)
anyways, i've made a bunch of changes to way it works now.. here's a test module to try:
pman-20211022.xzm
contents:
Code: Select all
pman-20211022
βββ etc
βΒ Β βββ bash
βΒ Β βββ bashrc.d
βΒ Β βββ porteus.bashrc
βββ usr
βββ local
βββ bin
βββ pman
- use pman -Sw <package(s)> to avoid installing to live system(and consequentially to /changes if used)
added alias pmod for pman -Sw to make ^ that simpler
- now uses pacman -Uddr instead of just tar when building modules (fixes database issue)
- fixed locales stripping (was wrongly looking for usr/share/locales )
- added alias psearch='pacman -Ss'
- fixed removal of (the now rare) /var/cache/*.tar.pkg.xz.sig files
- be sure to set your preferences in <usb>/config/modules file
havn't had this..
might need to explain to me what that is and how it works
will need to look into those.. most likely some things under the hood have changed since those were implemented..

ArchLinux packages manager for Porteus (Post by neko #82534)
If you use a FAT32/NTFS partition, putting files in rootcopy folder will truncate their permissions... I.e. I have a external .../rootcopy/etc/local.d/local-patches.start that executes some routines in my system depending on where I am (monitor, hardware clock, mount filesystems, etc.), but being placed in /etc/local.d will change /etc from 755 to 777 giving +rwx permissions to everyone. If you put it on a .tgz, it should be expanded without touching anything.
After all, that's what rootcopy was designed for, wasn't it?

I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

I think you have to create account after so many downloads. I belong to MediaFire I don't need another one unless you don't have to join to download. I don't like giving my e-mail out because of spam mail. I will wait tell a Desktop upgrade.

well, i would say that rootcopy was designed to be used with a POSIX filesystem ... seems to me that using a module would be just as simple(if not simpler, after all, that's what modules were designed for.. ) ..
in any case, i guess this technique is implemented somewhere in APorteus initrd ...will need some poking around..
