Well I try this one porteus-nemesis-v3.5-lxde-x86_64.iso and guest what WiFi work great
still sounds like a kernel/hardware issue... you could try using the old kernel(from that iso) with the new base.
i would think it's near impossible to upgrade packages from that old iso, since, for one, i believe it's based on manjaro openrc, which no longer exists.
Well I try and it STOP and said kernel to old . Do you have a build a lot newer so I could try? That don't have the same kernel then the newest one?
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

Why can't you stay with the porteus-nemesis-v3.5-lxde-x86_64.iso system?

And when are you going to try the lspci command suggestion so we can see what you've got? :)

ok, looking at this: Dell Inspiron 1525
tells us that it has a Broadcom BCM43xx chip, which needs it's driver to be compiled to match the kernel.. (which used to be done in the past)
which is a bit tricky if you havn't any network connection :(
i'll have a look at doing this for you later...

I don't understand your terminal commands Jack. They don't look like what I see if I execute them as guest.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ lspci
bash: lspci: command not found
guest@porteus:~$ sudo lspci | grep less
Password:
01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 3165 (rev 79)
guest@porteus:~$
-update-

Your recent posting is more normal.

I have several Broadcom modules. I will upload them and post them later. In the interim maybe these links will help. [HOWTO] Broadcom wifi under Porteus
Porteus-3.2rc2 bug reports I have a script for this if your interested.

lspci in (slackware) porteus must be run as root because lspci is in /sbin and sbin is not in guest's $PATH (although specifying the full path: /sbin/lspci might work for guest)
in nemesis, everything's in /usr/bin, which is in both root and guest 's PATH..

I have several Broadcom modules.
just note that they must be kernel specific. and not only that, but porteus and nemesis kernel modules are in different places..

@Jack, see if this one works for you:
broadcom-wl5.12.18-6.30.223.271-320-x86_64.xzm
must use the 5.12.18 kernel.
