hi jack the nemesis kernel is arch environment related, the same thing is only the aufs patch, porteus is slackware, btw thanks to neko and his mkKernel is a great tool, without we have to fight too much with the configure and the patch or the overlayfs.
My problem started when neko started making the kernel. The last kernel I could use for Porteus was k4.7.2 and for Nemesis was k4.4.3. That why I made my own Mate back in 2018-04-14 Brokenman made the kernel and Nemesis back in 2016-01-06 when Brokenman made the kernel. When neko for me the kernel stop working and I have a Dell inspiron 1525 Laptop.
I wish Brokenman was back only if he came once in awhile to give help because he know what he doing.

I'm 73 and old so I will keep my old Mate and brokenman old Nemesis because they and work well. I just wanted to upgrade because they are new but they don't work and no one will help because they don't know or they don't want to help.
I don't know how many have download and didn't work but they move on to another Linux version. We will never know.

A couple of things to note Jack:
1. you're not the oldest player here,
2. most of the tech people here do it as a hobby, not as a job, and
3. all the techs and support people here have RLs also.
Brokenman is a parent now so his free time is limited, if he has any at all.

tells me that whatever problems you're having, is to do with what you're adding, which is ? ... ...modules? changes?

I didn't add any modules the only thing I added was a USB WiFi to get it to work. I forgot I did change kernel and M. Eerie posted a link to download I had to use it to get my USB WiFi to work.

Your Kernel should be the
5.14.3-porteus one, right?
Can you?
Code: Select all
uname -a
ls /mnt/live/memory/images/*
As for the screensaver/flicker problem, I'm working on a more stable (complete) version. Give me some time, please.
If you want to update *only* your old MATE nemesis (from
brokenman) I think there are few chances to success because you will need to update the other base modules as well (including a kernel that works for you). No sense to update the desktop environment while the system stack is old.
What is the kernel version of your old MATE that works? Maybe
beny is right and you need an AUFS patched kernel.
(I don't know much about kernel development), I'm relying on
neko's invaluable efforts which keep us coming here.

Who else would be involved? There's almost no feedback
Also, I'm more a researcher than a coder ... Anyway I will help where I can.

Wow
(1,7 Gb though)
Poking around, I've discovered the link for
dwarFS.
Hopefully, this will add arbitrary compression methods to AppImages (zstd if you want speed, or dwarf-filesystem if you're aiming for more compression, although it is done by tricking (raising) the data blocks to 16Mb instead of 1M I'm using to mksquashfs). Will investigate.
Thanks for that,
beny
