05-devel modules aren't kernel specific.. use the 05-devel for nemesis .. however, you would need the crippled sources specific to your kernel..
I hope I kept that (crippled sources specific to my 5.4.30 kernel), I look into it and report back.
Cheers!

In future please include Netsurf Browser in 'base' both in Nemisis and Porteus.
I think no browser should be pre-selected for any of our OS, be it nemesis or Porteus, unlike e.g. lynx or links.

*Besides, having the need to update a ISO to add ones choice in browser is a good learning experience for users new to Porteus.
Or the few that use Porteus as their first step into the Linux world. (Are there any?)
That is your wish, just like mine.
No OS comes to the market without a Browser. One can install a browser of his choice later when you choose to install.
Netsurf is a very lean browser, just sufficient to browse/download immediate needs. Porteus forum could very well be reached. Lynx is for those who love the "Terminal".

No lessons or lectures are expected from you. Don't act too smart.

Please remember that filling this forum with useless, wasteful queries/doubts, does not make one a genius.

Developers of Porteus are doing excellent work with devotion.humility and untiring hard work. I love them all.

^

Since raja got personal for now I refuse to interact with him any more since I do not want to escalate the matter, especially since there could be misunderstandings involved. I reported his post to a moderator and let others deal with the issue instead.

I am ambivalent. There is place for different opinions. ncmprhnsbl will surely make a choice. But if you don't like the browser stock you can remove it and trade it for another.

But until nemesis gets more stable, I agree with raja, a browser with nemesis would be quite helpful at least until it gets more stable. My preference would go to firefox which boots in root mode. It has all my settings.

@raja:
There is no need to be publicly harsh with rava.

Both of what you provide on the forum is appreciated by the community.

I agree with you 100% francois.

I use Firefox also, as guest, but a small basic browser that supports a new user to choose and download a browser that they prefer seems essential to any system.

hi all nemesis,build a browser is a simple task when you save the pman setting in a xzm package,and you have a lot of software to install if you want.... and thanks to ncmprhnsbl that share this system with us.

@beny:
I do not know if it is only me but often there are missing libraries with my arch or artix built browser. I have to import it from porteus. I work in root mode.

But for sure you are right. Nemesis is a wonderful creature. There is nothing like it on the Linux planet, nothing so much KISS. Personally, I think that nemesis does better than all those pretender to the best lightweight distributions:

At least Porteus made the list.

but then they add this:
Reasons to avoid
-Can no longer build own custom ISO
Which of the other listed lightweight distributions had an own custom ISO builder to begin with at any time? What a biased "Reason to avoid". Image

Probable sides like techradar.com see Nemesis as a mere unofficial side project of Porteus?

nemesis is an artix system the pman look at artix repository in the past i have tried to use yaourt on it but with no much luck,the aufs system can have loop over loop when have to search libs or software,so... i am not much skilled in bash but we have a good system to work on.

As it has been said a while ago, I think Nemesis should be promoted... :)

Regarding netsurf being included, pman provides for an easy way to build your own bundles/modules.

Should you prefer to include it as standard, this script allows to update/remaster whichever base module.

I.e.: Change the line that reads:

Code: Select all

core) patches="xxhash";; ### xxhash is rsync new dependency
to

Code: Select all

core) patches="netsurf libdom libhubbub libnsutils libparserutils libutf8proc libwapcaplet";;
et voilà

Happy new year!

ncmp, Blaze's ISO booted ok. I installed the current version and added few applications. Now nemisis refuses to boot to guest desktop.
error message:
/home/guest:change directory..failed..permission denied.
logging in with /home as "/"
bash underscoreprofile; permission denied.

did you use your methods for update or Eeries'script?

There seems to be some permission issues. Now I boot to root.

Blaze..next time please change timezone in config file to UTC.
Thanks

it's unclear to me what's going on there ..where does that error message come from?

base modules are built from scratch at each update... there's no permissions issues here..

ncmp..yes,it boots to desktop-guest mode with base_only.

Regular start with all apps, it boots to guest prompt, with those error messages.

startx command, xauth tries with /home/guest/,xauthority and closes with server start failure.

startx in root prompt, works.

May be one of the applications installed by pman, interferes. I shall try by disabling oneby one.

Thanks.

* I too face the same problem with fulalas's xfce-4.16 as donald mentioned.

Need some tutorials on situations under which 003-xfce/qt module affects guest login to desktop.''

What makes xserver to close?

.xauthjority, .bashrc, bash_profile errors are seen sometimes during some experimentation.

Why reboot, shutdown, suspend get greyed out?

Is it something to do with file permissions inside the module? Please educate.

Do I get that right that libdom libhubbub libnsutils libparserutils libutf8proc & libwapcaplet are all needed dependencies for netsurf?

Code: Select all

pacman -Si netsurf
....
Depends On      : curl  gtk3  libhubbub=0.3.7  libjpeg-turbo  libnsutils=0.1.0
                  libutf8proc>=2.5.0  libwapcaplet>=0.4.3  libdom>=0.4.1  libwebp
.....
some of which are already there. (and probly some sub deps that aren't listed.)
of course:

Code: Select all

pman -S netsurf
should deal with this for you..
