@M. Eerie,

Well I had your Mate for awhile now and you did a great job with it. Now I have a Mate version I wish it work like it should but it works the as Nemesis (LXDE) dose.

I'm going to find someone with a Laptop and see if it works or not. I had the same problem with Porteus Mate tell I found my USB WiFi and it seem to fixed it. Maybe the Porteus and Nemesis kernel are not built the same way and something it missing when built.

I try the new update the only mode I have WiFi is Always Fresh mode. And it don't autostart I had to login as root then type startx.

And I have load Firefox and then turn WiFi on. I miss the background picture for the Desktop.

This module MATE-autostart.tar.gz is there any more when you built Mate to set it up? I had one for Porteus Mate when I built it a long time ago.

This one has autostart, Jack. Added another background as well.

Solve MATE screen flickering with Firefox
Most likely due to NVidia driver.

From Firefox menu --> Settings --> Uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when needed"

Test if flicker effect continues in https://www.vsynctester.com/

@M. Eerie,

Frist now it looks like the one I built. It autostart but mind don't autostart. And now your works the same way as mind if you turn WiFi on first then program won't run. All of this is done Always Fresh mode. If I try in Graphics mode(changes) and all the other mods I see this.

Porteus Linux 5.14.3-Porteus (tty1)
Porteus Login: Guest (automatic login)

--guest: /home/guest: change directory failed: Permission Denied

EDIT: It started as guest the at a point I had to hit Ctrl Alt F4 it went back to a log in screen and it was root mode so I type in guest PW guest then startx when I seen the main screen with WiFi on I try to run Firefox and believe it or not it Firefox started,

I just try my version of Mate and it work the same way.

I still say it all about the password. I don't enough member or user use Nemesis to know what going on here.

M. Eerie, I'm using what you sent me 000-kernel-5.14.3, 001-core, 002-gui, 002-xtra, 003-mate and 003-mate-extras and only thing I change from your is my 003-mate and 003-xtra. I haven't change or edit anything. Why I do it this way I wanted everything to stay the same but Mate.

I can confirm that. Once you activate a module, the programs that need admin rights will fail to start.

Trying to fix it.

Yes, the mate-extras package (applets, etc) is incomplete.

Trying to fix it as well. This is easier, but next time I will test it thoroughly before I upload a faulty new version.

I need to invest some time to do it.

Sorry

This is present when starting with Xfce too

initial investigation is not getting that exactly.. what it has showed up is a bug with pman when it makes firefox,
havn't tracked it down exactly, but it tries to include user settings(in my case there are none) and in doing so includes /home/guest in the module, but owned by root .. hence the permission denied messages...
fix is: extract firefox; delete /home and /root; recompress
like i say, pman needs a major overhaul..

I have made quite a few applications, including opera & vivaldi, using pman. All of them are functioning normally. Earlier Portix had many working apps, built using pman..

I found front speakers are muted by an application, assuming audio out is connected to headphone. Unmuting it using alsamixer and storing 'asound' in /var/lib/alsa does not survive reboot. Any solution? I installed pavucontrol to correct this, on every boot.

I found pman is doing its job fairly well. Please be very careful while rewriting.

hi pman work great if you have the pacman-settings,xzm i usually start with libreoffice firefox kodi opera and other software, is mate that have a strange issue if you change something, user do not boot anymore
xf86EnableIOport:failed to set IOPL for I/O operation not permitted, and root have a little way to use system no browser and so on,and pman build a package make a xzm package and put the package into the module directory is a great tool, and this way the kernel build have make an issue no boot at all.

Steps to reproduce as suggested by ncmp:

Image

So, first of all, open a root file manager window, then:
Navigate to /mnt/live/memory/images/ and check whether all your activated module images, contain a /home folder _AND_ it has a "lock" emblem attached. If not, then it has been given 'guest' owner permissions and any further action that involves root permissions will fail.

As the only reported application showing that behavior is Firefox... are you guys using my bbprofile script???

Pay close attention at what happens when I activate my firefox profile module that has /home with guest owner...

Maybe pman should not be blamed here...

In my case, deactivating the profile-firefox module reverted to normal state.

Check out for more built modules following that procedure.

(BTW This implies me to fix the bbprofile script)
