hi nautilus libraries libtracker-sparql seem jack you can't run setup pman is useful for all the software that is missed in system. M.Eeire also this version have the dual boot issue start with black screen ctl alt F2 relogin and after a while start also the first desktop strange.

I try my rebuild today and here what happen.

I took the latest build of lxde and remove 003-lxde.xzm then I rebooted in Always Fresh at that point here what I did.

1. setup-pman Went great.
2. pman -S mate Went great.
3. pman -S mate-extra Went great.
4. update-cache File not found
5. echo "exec mate-session" > ~/.xinitrc Didn't try.
6. startx Didn't try.

Then I rebooted in Always Fresh and it didn't work.

Well I found out I type update-cache in wrong but when I type right it work. Then I did this echo "exec mate-session" > ~/.xinitrc and this startx they worked.

Then I power down a reboot but what did was gone. How can I save what I did?

I think you need:

(in root terminal

The result from the command above is the file:
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/gschemas.compiled

which needs to be saved. Maybe saving changes as pointed by @François, or maybe:

Since you started from lxde module, It's better to replace the init file itself:

sed -i 's/lxde/mate/' /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
cp -a --parents /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc $PORTDIR/rootcopy/

Then in the porteus/rootcopy folder of your USB drive, you'll have the 2 patched files that you need to save in your MATE module.

chmod +644 both before build

If someone needs a reduced version, I can remove xapps (xreader, xed) and save some more space.
Perhaps made a module apart.

Also I'm planning to replace mate-terminal if favor of xfce4-terminal and add the build,extract,mount and unmount actions to the MATE caja menu.

Any preferences?

hi, M.Eeire i think you have to do a full optional desktop environment a device like an usb key 64 giga is very cheap,with changes or without is enough to play.imho

I've seen your post too late

So, I went the other way. This one is optimized. Excluded xapps and added some fine-tunning. Just about 37Mb wich is half the previous size.

Feels good.

Included geany instead xed and xfce4-terminal (has drop-down 'guake' option) instead of mate-terminal.

In order to fulfill Beny's request, I'll include some mate-extras in a separate module.

The only way I can use my Mate build is start in Always Fresh if I don't I will not have WiFi.

And every time I boot up I do this.

1. Login as root
2. Start WiFi by nmtui
3. update-cache
4. echo "exec mate-session" > ~/.xinitrc
5. startx

I'm running my build right now other then what I have to do get started it seem to work.

The Mate I built I have manually have to start it. The program like leafpad , pluma and other run with no WiFi but it I start WiFi I can't run any programs then if I turn off WiFi then they will run again. There is only root user and no guest user.
What could be wrong and can it be fixed?

Hello jack. Do you use grub2 to start you computer?
you could try to change in grub2 login=guest

Another way might be changing /etc/conf.d/agetty.tty1, see finding my way back with nemesis: an Alzheimer's journal. use agetty.tty1 as seach word in the text.

Keep going on.

No I don't use grub2, I just plug in my USB and boot my computer.
