Nemesis Mate

Post#106 by Jack » 19 Oct 2021, 19:00

I'm running Mate 1.26 on a 32gb SanDisk USB3. I'm using kernel-5.14.3.xzm, audacious-4.1.xzm, firefox-93.0-1.xzm and libreoffice-fresh-7.2.2-1.xzm so far.

It has a few problems but it work. I want to thank M. Eerie for helping we are trying to fix the problems.

I think I'm going to buy someday a USB3.1 500gb Hard Drive that way I can put videos, music, pictures and other stuff on it.
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

A USB3.1 500GB Flash Drive might be faster. ;)

I have to get Mate fixed before I buy anything, I don't buy if I can't use it for Linux Nemesis or even Porteus.

Further tests, I've been getting freezes whenever a gkt-filechooser appears in some scenarios. In my tests, this is only happening in a HP Pavilion i3 / 6Gb RAM with nVidia card. However, couldn't be reproduced in a i5 laptop with 8Gb ram and intel graphics.

Also, zenity package is incomplete. Adding full working zenity, will raise the module size by another 20 MB or so.

Still, any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Look close at this picture. Look at the prompt in the terminal and the other picture. Look at the number in both this started when I change to the new Laptop.

is this your own mate module?
post output of:

Code: Select all

cat /var/log/rc.log

rc-status

ls /mnt/live/memory/images

ls /mnt/live/memory/images/003-mate.xzm/var/lib/pacman/local

inxi -S

inxi -r

for a in $(find /mnt/live/memory/images/*.xzm/etc -type f); do cat $a | grep ".res6.spectrum.com"; done
would "spectrum.com" by any chance be your internet provider? if so, how/why it would be set as your hostname is odd..

I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

Also, zenity package is incomplete. Adding full working zenity, will raise the module size by another 20 MB or so.
check out : https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zenity-light/ ...doesn't use webkit2gtk...
Wow, I wasn't aware of this. Waiting for a yad-light too :D

Thanks!

looking at https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/ ... h=yad-gtk2 and https://github.com/archlinux/svntogit-c ... k/PKGBUILD
i'd say using --disable-html option should do it.. if you want the gtk3 version .. ie. grab the PKGBUILD edit it( change to --disable-html and remove webkit2gtk from the deps, then run makepkg )

@Jack ... looks like the hostname is set correctly at boot .. something else must be changing it later .. this one, please:

Code: Select all

for a in $(find /mnt/live/memory/images/*.xzm/etc -type f); do cat $a | grep ".res6.spectrum.com"; done

New release.

New features/fixes include:
* Added zenity-light, yad, transmission, netsurf, meld... Still the size is ~ 67 Mb
* Added some caja scripts (view md5sum, sha256sum, backup firefox profile...)
* Added some games (the ones you already received due to bounce-clicking mouse failure...)
* Added some music radio streams and a low resources launcher to mpv media player
* Added some wallpapers with dynamic workspace background changer
* Replaced Adwaita icon theme with some remixed Adaita++ theme
* Root open terminal in caja now works (was calling mate-terminal which was replaced by xfce4-terminal()

Known bugs:
*** On some hardware, trying to select text in terminal (root) window, freezes the system. Most likely due to Nvidia drivers (not included)
+ Caja root automounts drives .
