Re: Porteus Nemesis v3.5 BUG REPORTS

I have Nemesis install on a 1gb thumb drive. I had to put Firefox and Flashplugins on it cause it wasn't on that release LXDE 3.5 i486. If I see something not working I will report it. I'll try and help out.
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

possible bug I suspect due to my graphics setup but maybe others can confirm if they get the same output?

try glxinfo or glxgears

libGl and libglx symlinks are invalid!
Before resintalling mhwd please check that the symlinks are there. It took me 2 days to track down why KDE wouldn't start. Turns out these symlinks are required for mesa to pick up the correct video drivers, otherwise kde wouldn't start. No need to reinstall mhwd though, just run mhwd-gpu (from memory) and it will create the symlinks for you. Also, I believe I didn't include the mesa extras, of which glxgears is probably one.

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/libGL.so
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2.0
/usr/lib/libGLESv1_CM.so
/usr/lib/libGLESv1_CM.so.1
/usr/lib/libGLESv1_CM.so.1.1.0
/usr/lib/libGLESv2.so
/usr/lib/libGLESv2.so.2
/usr/lib/libGLESv2.so.2.0.0
/usr/lib/libEGL.so
/usr/lib/libEGL.so.1
/usr/lib/libEGL.so.1.0.0
# The above should point to their counterparts in /usr/lib/mesa
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so: symbolic link to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.xorg
Jack please do install all updates. I always do this in fresh mode first to make sure nothing breaks. If it does break, let us know.

I didn't do it in fresh mode and everything install like it should. And it was fast when it did it. It is up-to-date. I'm playing music in DeaDBeeF and it seem to be working great.

Could someone provide v3.5 on mediafire or the sort. I would really like to have a try.

Thanks.

@brokenman
and any interested tester

update to glxinfo error....now resolved as follows

1) I do not have catalyst graphics but saw my earlier output so as root as I had already upgrade/re-installed mhwd

Code: Select all

root /tmp # mhwd-gpu --setgl mesa
Using default
Default lib32 support: true
libGl: '/usr/lib/mesa/libGL.so.1.2.0'
libGLESv1: '/usr/lib/mesa/libGLESv1_CM.so.1.1.0'
libGLESv2: '/usr/lib/mesa/libGLESv2.so.2.0.0'
libEGL: '/usr/lib/mesa/libEGL.so.1.0.0'
libglx: '/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.xorg'
glxgears now runs and does glxinfo

2) for catalyst users try as root

Code: Select all

mhwd-gpu --setgl catalyst

@brokenman
rather than do a bug report....I have self bugged vlc youtube streaming and updated my tut here
viewtopic.php?f=137&t=5304

I have deliberately not shown the glxinfo solution there as it belonged here as graphics is system wide issue for most while only a few play vlc

Hello Jack,

I would prefer the kde version, but would appreciate both. I do not have dropbox, but will install it.

Thanks.

Now you want Nemesis 3.5 kde? I will have to upload them to Dropbox. I think all you need is the link to it. Just let me know. When ready I'll send a PM to you.

ADDED INFO:

PM has been sent with link with md5sum info.

possible bug ....fonts

booted up to no-changes to look at glxinfo and ended up looking here

Code: Select all

[ 7.226] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for fbdev

In another distro the structure is not (eg) /usr/share/fonts/misc
but
/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc

any clues why we are not using this structure?

my earlier post that I had resolved all bugs for vlc youtube streaming was partially true

it fails for a no changes cheatcode which means I have more work to do.

The issue appears to relate to my glxinfo post but I did not post everything I tried there
so there is more to discover

Nemesis 3.5 32-bit

I have found that Nemesis does not always create a module, when
installing with pman. Instead, it installs apps directly into the
system.

setup-pman
did create a module - and is working ok.

pman -S htop
created a module - but aborts when I use it.

pman -S sc
pman -S abiword
did not create a mode in either case.
