these are suggestions

I am not sure if your system is up to date?

Have a read of my glx tutorial....if you have not already done so
viewtopic.php?f=137&t=5432&hilit=glxgears

pretending you have not tried to it and assuming you have no mouse in desktop as reported lets try to do manually?
---there are shortcut keys to use on a desktop without a mouse but lets try below as I umm have not researched the ones you need.

I need to boot up with a changes cheatcode and the textmode cheatcode 3 eg 3 changes=/porteus
at console prompt login as guest then change to root and enter the other commands...you can skip kill Xorg as it should not be running
--but I include it to show the place to try it if lxdm does not work first time

Code: Select all

su
mhwd-gpu --setgl mesa
(skip) killall Xorg
lxdm
Now for me, with glxgears already fixed my console commands from text mode to desktop
su -> (input pw)
lxdm
and then I am on graphical screen with a working mouse. lxdm takes me to my desktop rather than to a login manager screen.

###############################
2) if you can borrow a neighbour's usb mouse you might like to try to fix glxgears first without going thru console prompt

regarding missing letters, I am not sure what keyboard layout you have chosen or need.

pretending you have a normal US international or US kb layout when you can use the mouse try
menu button -> preferences -> default applications for lxsession
-> settings and you will see a box for kb layout and model stuff eg pc105 etc

in that same area you will see a pulldown for laptop mode

not sure if that will help only a suggestion

this is not a bug but related info for posts above

I can not see a keyboard shortcut in lxde-rc.xml that will allow the user to open a terminal such as lxterminal
--catch 22 you could set if you have a mouse but I may be wrong?

@brokenman

I know this belongs in suggestions but I post it here so you can see relevance?

Some other distro has edit of
/home/guest/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xm and the root one to add a shortcut to lxterminal of

C-A-t = control plus alt plus t letter
<!-- Launch LXTerminal with Ctrl+Alt+t-->
<keybind key="C-A-t">
<action name="Execute">
<command>lxterminal</command>
</action>
</keybind>

Ok just tesedt this new config file....and it works for me to give a keyboard shortcut to lxterminal

If it works..for you...not claiming it resolves all issues here is a shorted url you can use

http://tinyurl.com/zocwbd7

when you login as guest you should be at /home/guest for below to work

at the console login as guest and type

Code: Select all

cd .config/openbox
wget http://tinyurl.com/zocwbd7 -O lxde-rc.xml
then su and reboot to desktop and hopefully c a t will give you lxterminal....it does for me
then you can try the glxgears command but don't skip the Xxorg command as Xorg has started please.

if you prefer to login as root then ensure you are at /root

You can try this from a text mode boot:

'ck-launch-session dbus-launch startx startlxde'

I can't say it will do anything for the font issue, but it should start dbus and take it out of the equation. I've found that Lxde needs to be started in the proper manner, then session services are also started.

I haven't run into a font thing like that, almost seems driver related. The Kangaroo uses an Intel video card?

@ brokenman
There is not a lot more to test in LXDE.
...perhaps introduce another desktop. Any preferences?...
Yes,XFCE.. :)
I gave porteus to some friends of mine for testing and most of them
(ex win users) prefer XFCE. Easy to use/configure, not so spartan as LXDE
and not so overloaded with options as KDE.
(no one voted for LXQT)
and please include some wanted plugins like
xfce4-cpufreq-plugin and xfce4-sensors-plugin
Thanks

Agreed, Xfce4 is all I use now, and for the same reasons. The only real problem I had with it in Nemesis, was spending a very frustrating couple of days trying to get xfdesktop to recognize my choices of backgrounds. I finally downgraded xfdesktop, and all was right in the world again.

There is also a backlight issue I haven't looked at yet, I think it might be coming from elsewhere besides Xfce. It's easily dealt with though, using the power-manager plugin.

Thanks aus9, as I said I haven't bothered to look into it, though I did check that link out. I have to ignore both openrc and systemd stuff with mine. Thats why it may be coming from something besides Xfce.

Thanks beny.
I got them.
If we will (once) have a final (xfce) version, they should be included by default.
We had a bunch of plugins in porteus 3.1, but these 2 were missing. :(

For backlight try: xbacklight -set 50%

I also prefer xfce4 so will put something together.

this thread is for bug reports thanks for testing. This post has been moderated by aus9 to remove all text.

If you have a problem with wifi setup please advise your errors and whether you attempted to follow the tutorial or not.

Suggestions are welcome but please try to avoid using mainly capitals as it looks like you are shouting at members which might appear rude.

There is a post for Nemesis suggestions and all suggestions are welcome here

Original post mentioned another forum and the use of software called frisbee or Frisbee, hard to tell when poster likes the cap key :D

AFAIK this package is not in the repo. Nor can I find it in the AUR system

@Donald:
XFCE
This is the easiest as being the prefered one of manjaro lead developper PhilC
https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?titl ... ments#XFCE

From lxde environment you can build it easily:
pman -S xfce4
and for more packages
pman -S xfce-goodies

Then add to .xinitrc:
exec startxfce4

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# nano ~/.xinitrc
@all:
