Nemesis 2022 rebooted!

Post#1 by ncmprhnsbl » 17 Aug 2022, 03:21

New release for 2022 updated-2022-10-28 (v22.08+1)

:dl-green: ISO Downloads here :dl-green:
  • new file hosting at sourceforge to enable some of the scripts like language selection and get-devel
  • new boot screen and branding, version now "Nemesis-v22.08" instead of "Porteus-v3.5"
  • four ISOs : lxde, lxqt, xfce4, cinnamon
  • reorganization of the base modules:
    • moved gtk3 to 002-gui and removed gtk2, vte-legacy (gtkdialog updated and compiled for gtk3)
    • added icon theme (korla) to 002-gui
    • restored 003-shared.xzm : containing common DE related pkgs.. eg. gvfs, udisks2, network-manager-applet, gparted, etc and related..
  • 22.10.28: kernel (6.0.5) compiled natively in nemesis crippled sources here :dl-green:
  • syslinux and installer files updated to match porteus-v5.0
  • new initrd.xz with updated busybox(1.35) and e2fsck, ntfs-3g (and supporting libs) (removed reiserfs support):: 22.10.28 : rebuilt: fixed busybox for encrypted savefile loading
  • added 'savefile manager' and 'porteus-installer' guis (with adaptations for nemesis)
  • 22.10.28: added 'save-session' gui
  • added xdelta3 (and a gui for it adapted from Puppy linux) with idea of using 'delta' binary diff/patches for future updates.22.10.28: iso deltas now at download link(instructions in the readme)
  • 22.10.28 (updated) netsurf is included in the ISOs in the modules folder
  • 22.10.28 `get-devel` might work now ..needs testing
  • 22.10.28 changed various scripts to use `rysnc -a --mkpath` instead of `cp -a --parents` due to inconsistent behavior and changed egrep usage to grep -E to avoid "obsolete warning"
  • ..various other additions and removals...
notes:
language selection is a work in progress and most likely broken, please test :) : should be good now
the pkg repos are set to the archive repos at the date of build(2022-10-28).. 'mirrorlist-toggle' will toggle between this and the rolling repos
my recommendation is to only use the rolling repos for certain pkgs(eg. web browser) or if you are attempting a base upgrade..

All apreciations for Nemesis v22.08..very nice team work..a few sugestions for perfectioning new versions..please include save change module in save file manager..on usb is
much faster than savefile.dat...also the multilib library for wine is not working..it damage the system on start loading..and wifi drivers are not working on some usb wifi devices..
But almost appimages applications are working..all the best..

hi beny, i can't reproduce this .. i did notice with pcmanfm, a freshly formatted and labelled partition showed in the path as /mnt/<label> ( a non-existant dir) but this self corrected(to /mnt/sd*) in course of copying files and navigation..

Nemesis 2022 rebooted!

hi ncmprhnsbl, my usual way is mount the device in /mnt/arch cd /mnt/arch/boot and run the linux-installer and the path of installer where start the script is /mnt/arch not /dev/sdx,no problem but setup-pman do not save the module tell me that /etc/pacman.d directory do not exist so fail the build, also in this issue i have to do the setup-pman every boot, but no problem, very impressive the pman software and the artix repository,ps: the script setup-locale hang the system but you can change the tty, well you can use the mkernel software but not in nemesys you can run Aporteus to build the new kernel i have build the 5.18.18 for nemesys and seem that run.ok end of report.

:) ..i can only suggest to mount /dev/sdx in /mnt/sdx

yeah, as far as i can work out there's a bug in gnutls cp that seems to be stripping the leading / off commands ... work around for the moment to:

Code: Select all

# cd /
# setup-pman
the 5.18.15 kernel was built using nemesis, (with Kernel Builder script -- simple version by fulalas ..slightly modified)
i havn't tried again since the rebuild so there may be something i missed..

sorry for not getting back to you on this ..
in the meantime, i've had some success with nekos latest version of his kernel builder..(22.09.11)
seems to build the kernel without problem,
..except.. that the crippled sources module somehow gets messed up: it ends up with a lot of 'empty' files... ie. the files are present but contain no data..
almost like it was squashfsed before the copying process had finished or something.. thinking this is related to other strange behaviors i've noticed around cp in nemesis..
more investigations needed..
meanwhile, it's not terribly difficult to fix the crippled sources module manually by copying the relevant files from the source tree..

Thanks for the update!

Please have a look at this typo error still present @001-core-20221028/etc/init.d/prelogin

Also it should be noted:
With the introduction of the 003-shared-yymmdddd.xzm module, the loading order is changed somehow. Not affecting to 003-xfce... since x > s, but this condition is not fulfilled for the remaining desktops that will be loaded prior to the 003-shared module...

am aware of this.. could make the DE modules 004-* ..but it shouldn't matter, since there's not any overwrites between these two modules .. 003-shared being an extension of 003-DE ... (my own personal "utility" 003 module doesn't use 003-shared at all (noload=003-shared))

Nemesis 2022 rebooted!

hi ncmprhnsbl i have installed yay on nemesis, you know that is a very useful tool to search software out of the main line, there is a way to have a wrapper to make xzm or we have to use the changes for the installed packages, not all the software are in tar.zst thanks for nemesis and pman, ok i have found all the software in .cache and .config so don't mind i have a script for the tar.zst2dir and repack in xzm.
