Trying to install the Kiosk on an older HP workstation and see this error when trying to boot the the USB installer.

No issues with newer machines...

Can you point me in a direction? I know it has to be a setting in the BIOS but not sure where to look.

On a side note, the USB's I've used are all formatted with Fat32. Multiple USB sticks and multiple older HP workstations. All the same error.

I've also tried building an install USB on one of the older workstations, the build works just fine but I get the same kernel panic error when trying to boot with that USB drive.

I'm racking my brain....

The workstations are HP DC5800's

Tried:

acpi=off noapic

Thinking the acpi might be an issue, still the same exact kernel panic.

It's possible your flash drive is too fast for the hardware. Try adding a delay cheatcode. Something like delay=8.

Unfortunately default screen resolution is too small to find which driver is crashing.

Please contact with support@porteus-kiosk.org and i'll provide a debugging ISO with VESA driver compiled directly into kernel and 'vga=795' parameter activated by default (framebuffer is needed to get higher resolutions).

This would let us see where the problem is and hopefully resolve the issue.

i am having the exact same issue, seems as if the boot kernel is somehow incopatible with the older hardware.
(HP xw4600)

Thank you to fanthom for trying to help me over email, but no matter what I try I cannot get any of our HP 5800's or 6000's to boot and cannot get the resolution to change to where I can view the first part of the error screen to see what is exactly causing the error.

I'll just have to use the Windows 10 Kiosk mode for these computers.

I even tried going all the way back with each version to 3.7 No luck.

The weird thing is, We have some REALLY old HP machines (laptops and desktops) where the latest has installed just fine, only our 5800's and 6000's seem to have this issue booting.

Is there any linux which can boot on these PCs? If you find one (would be great if it had recent kernel) then please download and run this script:

I wish I could install Linux on one of these boxes but I can't. They are currently being used for employee time login machines and I can't have them down for more than 5 minutes. If I were to install linux on one of them then I would have to re-image thm with Windows afterwards and they can't be down that long.

No need for an installation, booting live and generating debug report is enough.
Most of linuxes allow for booting in live mode so users could test the system before performing actual installation on the hard drive.

You could check distros which claim legacy hardware compatibility in the first place:

Of course you could test Porteus Desktop as well

If no linux is able to boot on these PCs then i wont be able to help (only kernel developers can fix this bug).
