access barcode reader & nfc?

Post#1 by brutus » 29 Jun 2022, 05:30

Hello,

after having troubles with the camera I can't use (no driver available) I ordered a test tablet with a builtin barcode reader (Honeywell N3600).
Is there a way to access the reader via shell?
According Honeywell it should be possible to get it run:
https://honeywellaidc.force.com/support ... with-Linux

Tablet's also got NFC. Couldn't figure out the specifics.
Same question here. Is there a cli command to scan rfid chips?

I would like to know if the two devices work at all. Otherwise, porteus is not an option.
Then I have to use Windows, which I would like to avoid at all costs. Preparing Windows 10 iot for kiosk is plain horror!

access barcode reader & nfc?

Post#2 by fanthom » 29 Jun 2022, 06:12

Michael,

Please test the hardware under Ubuntu.

1) If it does not work then query manufacturer about Ubuntu (they for sure wont know how to get it to to work under our system thats why we must rely on Ubuntu).

2) If Ubuntu works then I could try to get it working under kiosk.

Thanks

Lucky me! There's a extra button to activate barcode reader.
Works!

Thanks for the response anyway.

At least I can confirm that porteus and Honeywell are doing well together.
