No "Delete", and Trash dont accept files at all.

Post#1 by ElectriQT » 31 Dec 2014, 10:32

I know this was a bug in Rc1/2, but I thougt it was fixed as it is no warning in the ISO-configurator , maybe we should have a small note there?
or.. "Download "LXqt[beta]", Now without delete" :-)

I can live with plug in an extra USB, just to be able to delete files ,
cut from LXQt-usb, then go and paste it on the "trash-disk"..

But other than that I dont know how to delete files (at all) in LXQt, so how do you guys do it? :-)

* The "delete" is missing now from the right click menu,
* my delete KEY will do "send to trash", that system says dont work.., = Nothing happens
* and if I "send to trash" from rightklick-meny it dont work at all.

Deleting files via Midnight Commander (mc) works ok.

Files put into Trash can be deleted from the Trash folder by Right clicking on the Trash name on the left side of PCManFM.

It wasn't obvious to me either initially.

Hmm, no ?
as "Put files" in to trash (or delete to trash),
or delete also dont work at all now in LXQT 3.1 (32bit, copy2ram))
Not even cut file and paste to trash will work,

but cut +paste it on another drive do works as a method
to remove a file from the porteus-drive. But it is a stupid method..

i can confirm that ED-P method works: right mouse click on Trash then choose 'Empty Trash'
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

Hi all,
Happy 2015 and a good year for Porteus :-)

Regarding the delete function missing:

what I have been trying to tell is that the funktion *Delete* it self is the problem,
not a normal "empty the trash". ( =Therefore Trash will never get any files at all, always empty)

So why cant we delete to trash or direct delete permanent without go to trash? :pardon:
(the standard for permanent delete is [shift+del] )

LXQt 3.1 32bit

(Yes Del-key works in Firefox for example, so it is something in the system/filemanager, so it is probably the file manager?)

the 'move to trash' function should work, please test in 'Always Fresh' mode..

to enable delete instead of trash:
in pcmanfm-qt, go to Edit/Preferences/Behavior/File Operations,
uncheck 'Move deleted files to "trash bin" in of erasing from disk'

@electric:
lxqt for me, in root and guest mode :
* The "delete" is missing now from the right click menu,
You are right, but you can delete directory from the pcmanfm-qt menu at the top:
Edit > delete

* my delete KEY will do "send to trash", that system says dont work.., = Nothing happens
I do not get the same result. The delete key works for me and sends the file from the initial folder to the thrash folder. I have opened the trash folder with the trash icon in the left pane o pcmanfm-qt.

* and if I "send to trash" from rightklick-meny it dont work at all.
I do not get the same result. In my case this will work perfectly and will send the file in the trash folder.

Are you working root mode or guest mode?
Did you tried it in always fresh mode? (there could be a conflict with some additional module)
Please verify in always fresh mode, and provide the results.

Did try that, then i got *errors*-popup on screen also :-)

Could not save screenshot. hmm.. Ok, I will try that again another day

to enable delete instead of trash:
in pcmanfm-qt, go to Edit/Preferences/Behavior/File Operations,
uncheck 'Move deleted files to "trash bin" in of erasing from disk'

Thank YOU!

THIS actually did work,
(i disabled the "move to trash") , so now the delete button and right click works, I can erase files in my system.

I Found an other bug there,
in the confirm-popup "do you want to delete the selected file "YES NO" , both are marked at the same time..
(that did not hapen in "always fresh", but there I got an system-error-popup instead..)

So now both of them are "lit up" before I chose one,
but it is actually the "No"-button as default to take the command when i press spacebar.,

After a 1 step toggle with tab och left-right arrow = "Yes", and the file disappears as I want.

But NOW after that, a very strange thing happens..

The next file I try to delete , now the confirm-popup DID have only 1 button "active", Great! (....or maybe not..)
so I did press the NO to test = The file was Erases from disk..! wtf..?

Strange
Are you using a self-configurated 32bit iso from the isoconfigurator, with root and userpasswd?
Are you working root mode or guest mode?
both, but fresh mode is useless, cant acess disks/boot stick there. A click on the sda1 (boot-stick, I dont have a hdd)
"mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda1 is already mounted on /mnt/sda1
mount failed"

This happens as root and as user in PCManFM

Did you tried it in always fresh mode? (there could be a conflict with some additional module)

Yes, verified.

I found a workaround to be able to acess drives in freshmode:

to be able to access disk that shows up as "not mounted in the panel" and
cant be acessed from mc or PcmanFM, but still did say "mounted" when I try to "mount" it again...

I now Browsed in to the live file system instead, with PCManFM,
" /MNT/SDA1/ , and there it is, and the sda1-stick now works.. and I an access files..
Strange..

NOW a file get removed as in your case, (to trash!) as expected here as the default settings should do. with a delete key.

(but both the "yes and no" is still active at the same time in the confirm-popup. :-)

So, it is Still very buggy in LXQt.

It is confusing..

Ok, so:
After I did navigate in to /mnt/sda1/ files, I now finally can see the files in freshmode, for the first time..

(now I have now done this from guest, in PCManFM. And no, I did not have to "mount" it with passwd,)

But finally I can now see all the files on the boot-stick also with the "mc"-file manager!
So I believe it was indeed "mounted" now with this method.

Before this "/mnt/sda1/" it acted in mc as if this sda1 was "not mounted", = nothing did show up, even when at the same time the PcmanFM told me:
"mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda1 is already mounted on /mnt/sda1
mount failed
"

But Now after this, PCManFM will still not show the files when I click on "sda1" in the sida panel, =
"mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda1 is already mounted on /mnt/sda1
mount failed"

So we must always navigate up to / and then in to /mnt/sda1/ ..and there they are, all my files.
- Strange..

(This is 32bit 3.1, a basic start-user and root passwd was set in isoconfigurator, 20% zram, but after we change the passwd in Porteus settingsscenter it will not stay after a reboot, it falls back to the one set before in the isoconfigurator. But all other changes seems to stay ok, like the FW settings, the desktop background pictures and so on.)

Also I now cant "unmount/eject the stick in PCManFM ! hehe. :-)

So right now, LXQT Freshmode, = Crapmode.. We cant use it.

But I must say LXQT DO work "ok" now in the normal copy2ram
And it works decent well for a beta now, I must say! :good:

(besides the memory issues and stuff with the panels, grafix bugs that needs forced x-reeboot?
(Must do a ctrl+alt+backspace.. + a valid login, with a BEFORE set guest passwd!

( is this a bug also? if no guest passwd was setin the isoconfigurator = we cant log in again )

(The errors can be: text that disappears/get miss-alignments and get hard to read and so on. I tested for this in 2 different laptops/brands. But It do works ok most of the time.)

So it "sort of" works now to delete files in copy2ram-mode,
but only after we change the defaults ..the defaults that do NOT work at all.. (on hp and lenovo),

After we manually set it( in pcmanfm, settings) to not use the "trashcan" at all,
then yes LXQT then can be used here and we CAN use a delete key.
(But trash will never work, only work in freshmode, but then almost nothing else seems work in the FM, so..there are no files there to delete.. :-)

So yes it works now, if we boot in copy2ram, and IF we change the PCManFM preferences to not use the trash at all, then we can delete.
We will then get that dual 2-marked-active-at-the-same-time-buttons:
"Do you really want to delete [öhmm.. "-Noyes!"] ?" +leftArrow + spacebar = Deleted, ..wooha!
,

So It does work good enough to be used as "every day" -desktop now for me,
That is..if we avoid any changes to the defaults panel widgets in the desktop.. As that did not end well :-)
,

My LXQt does not feels as "ready" as LXDE does, yet.
But I will try to use LXQt 32bit at work now and see.
.
