Firefox is an englishman

Here you can post about the issues related to modifications performed manually (not through the kiosk wizard). Example: swapped kernel, added 3rd party modules or files.
Please describe in detail what has been changed and hopefully other kiosk user will be able to help.

Firefox is an englishman

Post#1 by tb59427 » 04 Sep 2014, 11:32

Hi all,

installed the latest distribution on a small NUC to be used as a briefing system for leisure pilots in our flying club. Installation worked very well, all up and running. I do have a problem with firefox, though. A lot of websites seem to check language settings of the browser. So when I connect to those websites, they automatically bring up their english content. We're a German club, though :-P

How can I set firefox (or the kiosk) up such that firefox pretends to be a German when connecting to a website?

thanks for any pointers

cheers
Torsten

hello tb59427,

please stick kiosk related queries in the kiosk section of the forum:
Porteus Specialized Editions
will move them there once you see my answer.

to answer your question:
a) please run firefox on any box (linux/windows) and follow this thread:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... 40&start=0
b) track settings responsible for these preferences in your $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/profile/prefs.jf
c) remaster the kiosk ISO as per documentation:
http://porteus-kiosk.org/kiosk-customization.html
and insert these settings in the kiosk prefs.js file.

in case of troubles i could do this customization for you through the commercial 'customized builds' service:
http://porteus-kiosk.org/builds.html

thanks

Plz check from firefox menu: Preferences-->Content-->Languages-->Choose; you can add/remove language packs from there; perhaps it will work only if you (re-)package vanilla/latest binary blob from mozilla's site. See also http://ebba.ddns.net/pub/Linux/SlackBui ... fox.tar.xz

EDIT: Updated links to new site/locations ;-)

there is no such thing in kiosk.

looks like users got confused cause the threads are posted in wrong section of the forum.
moving to the kiosk section now.
