Notification area icons of menu panel are highlighted

When I was running Porteus from a CD, the Wifi/networking icon was a nice looking greenish graph.

Now that I'm running from a USB, all the icons in the "notifcation area" of my menu panel are surrounded by white.

Here's a pic:

Anyone know why this might be?

(The networking and sound are working fine)

Try:
1. logout
2. wait a moment
3. login

or activate any module,
or run in terminal

Code: Select all

killall xfce4-panel
and next

Code: Select all

xfce4-panel

The logout/login didn't make any difference.

Doing "killall xfce4-panel" then "xfce4-panel" DID get the regular appearance back - great, thank you!

*But is there some way to accomplish that without restarting "xfce4-panel" everytime I login?

Any ideas on this?

Doing "killall xfce4-panel" then "xfce4-panel" gets the regular appearance back. But I'd rather not have to do that every time the computer starts.

I think your hardware is too slow in comparison to your usb speed. I would try this (but I don't know if it helps):
killall xfce4-panel
Copy /usr/bin/xfce4-panel to /usr/bin/xfce4-panel-2
Create somewhere xfce4-panel file and set permissions/owner as for /usr/bin/xfce4-panel
Edit created xfce4-panel and add to it:

Code: Select all

sleep 3 && xfce4-panel-2
Copy/overwrite /usr/bin/xfce4-panel with created one.
Logout
Login

Try this first without saving changes or in Always Fresh Mode.

Have modified the panel in any way? Added something or resized it? If so can you give details please?

@rcrfs:
This seems to be a double post:

Try to boot in always fresh mode. If everything is back too normal it's something you have done since the installation that was save to the save file.

@brokenman

-I moved the menu panel from the top of the screen to the bottom. And I added a shortcut to LibreOffice. But I didn't resize the panel.
-When I logout of the default user and then login to the root account (which has the default Porteus layout with menu bar at top), the icons are still white.

@tome

-Simply doing killall "xfce4-panel" and then "xfce4-panel" fixes the appearance. But that fix doesn't survive a reboot. I tried your suggestion, but no luck either.
-My computer is pretty new (1 year old), so I don't think it's too slow. I just tried running Porteus on a USB 2.0 instead of 3.0, but icons are still white.

@francois

-Yes, when booting in Always Fresh mode, the icons appear correctly. But as mentioned to brokenman, my changes have been quite minimal.
-The problem occurs on both copy2ram and "xfce graphical" modes.

Strange observation:

Approximately 25% of the time when I boot, the networking icon appears correctly. Usually it is whited. The volume icon is always whited.

the mode i made the screenshots in is

initrd=initrd.xz copy2ram timezone=Europe/Moscow utc

Changing the style in the appearance settings makes some panel icons out of style.
