Hello all. New to Linux and new to Porteus but I'm a convert.
This was the ONLY distro I was able (newbie remember) I could get to A: install on my HDD and/or B: get a darn GUI. From start of install to finish "it just worked" All my cards, all my devices, and this is a Pentium 4 machine! Wizardry, for real, amazing.
OK, anyway, So I'm using i486 version and when opening desktop from settings I get a window that let's me choose a pic. My problem is the location of said files. There is a dropdown showing various locations like "root" or "filesystem" and my connected USB and SD card(s). After logging as root I was able to move a collection of jpgs from an SD card (another wizardry moment as the old 2.5" card reader just worked) to a folder I like to put in "Pictures" labelled "Wallpaper" Just what I always do.
However I'm unable to point at this folder and the dropdown just lists the above mentioned. So far the only way I can see my pics in the above selection screen is to load them all at the "root" option as listed in the dropdown. That though is very messy for me, I don't want all those jpgs just hangin around that folder. All I need is to be able to point to my created folder but I'm not seeing anywhere to do that.
Thanks for any help, appreciated.
*I find myself out of work atm but after that is solved I will be donating to this amazing piece of work. This basically 25 year old machine looks like it was put together yesterday. Obviosly the internet has moved on but this is incredible. Considering my option was Windows 2000 (which I loved) but I couldn't even get install disk to recognize and even had I Microsoft doesn't just end support for their OS's they actively sabotage trying to use them.

hi, but you have enabled the changes directory, if you don't have it all your work when you shutdown the computer is lost, you can make a directory named changes in the porteus root tree directory and if you boot with the first option all your work is on the device.

( in porteus 5.01 = xfce 4.16 )
Settings > Desktop > 'folder' > 'other' > navigate to your Wallpapers folder
or
if you add your folder to your short cuts in the file manager it then picks it up,
if one use xfce 4.12 like I do:
Settings > Desktop > 'folder' > 'other' > click top left 'Type a file name' icon and type the path
to your Wallpapers folder into the location bar.
