Apps gone
I am new to Porteus, I installed it with kde desktop environment then I started downloading the packages I use to work with in usm repo, I do not know what I did the thing all the applications icons from the menu on the desktop are gone.
When I run a specific program for instance libreoffice, it prompt, but upon trying to open a file there's no associated application. How can I get back the apps icon visibles. Need help.

Re: Apps gone
After re-installed Porteus, I started downloading the apps I use to work with then I noticed the apps disappeared again after downloaded and installed ktorrent. Does anybody knows why this is happening? I would not like to re-install again.
I really want to give a try to Porteus, I used to work with pclinuxos. not a expert but familiarized with it.

Re: Apps gone
You should be able to eliminate that annoying message by removing the /usr/share/mime/packages/kde.xml file and updating the mime database.

my computer is a 32bit. I checked the apps in /bin folder the executable are there, how can I add them into the applications menu.

Here is what mean and like I said it the icon with word Code on it. You don't have to write anything. Just start a message and copy from a terminal or a text editor then paste it in a message then high lite the text again then push the button with code on it. Below is what it look like. Hope this help you out.linuxer wrote:Jack can you be more specific, I do not know what you mean.

linuxer, run these commands
If you does not have kde-4-applications.menu at /etc/xdg/menus - you can download and activate this module kde-4-applications.xzm and run these commands (see above) again.
Code: Select all
su
toor
ll /etc/xdg/menus
mkdir /root/.config/menus
mkdir /home/guest/.config/menus
cp /etc/xdg/menus/kde-4-applications.menu /root/.config/menus/applications.menu

Re: Apps gone
I've got news for you guys, I took extremes measures by wiping the two partitions I've got then I re-installed porteus with the xfce desktop environment, by the way, which I love it, but guess what, I am watching both desktop mixed kde4 and xfce. all apps from kde4 plus the apps from xfce are in the launch menu along with the packages I downloaded which are libreoffice, ktorrent, google chrome and thunderbird. So what do you think just happened?
and so far everything is running smoothely
