running porteus 3.0 KDE Desktop edition,
I'm on a netbook at my school because porteus make the pc insanely fast while Microsoft windows sucks ass. I tried to connect to wifi but it wont work. not even on a wifi connection with no password. it tries to but then it says no ip address and everything below it is unknown.

Is the open network designed to be used by the public? Does it connect OK under windows?

To make sure it is the netowrkmanager causing the problem try this:
Open up a terminal
Elevate to root where password is toor:
Code: Select all
guest@porteus:~$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/home/guest#
Start the network wizard tool and answer questions:
Code: Select all
root@porteus:/home/guest# xpns-tool
If this is the only wifi you use then choose yes to make a module at the end. If you use various wifi connections then choose no. Does it work?
