Porteus rc2 and rc3 linux installer [fixed]

The fix to Uncompressing Porteus Installer 100% ... Extraction failed. for rc2 and rc3 is just to copy the linux installer from a working version such as rc1. I reuploaded the installer from rc1 to https://www.mediafire.com/file/v22be6ua ... x.com/file

Please test more carefully instead of breaking stuff. Otherwise, good job.

There is no Install instruction that says to Uncompress the installer before running it.

Please reread the Install txt and try again before complaining.

I don't follow any instructions, I just run the file. It works on rc1 but not on rc2 or rc3. bye

Hi gnuion.
I don't have this issue with Porteus RC3 on the ext2 partition.

What type of file system are you use for Porteus partition?
Can you run this command in terminal and write name of partition with installed Porteus at your PC?

Code: Select all

lsblk -e7 -o NAME,SIZE,FSTYPE,TYPE,MOUNTPOINT
Thanks.

Hello Blaze,
I am using fat32 because it is more practical in terms of sharing among noobs. Can you reproduce this error with rc2 or rc3 on a fat32 stick? Will fat32 be supported again in the future? Thanks! I think porteus is a great project and has the potential for adoption. The fastest distro ever.

--> Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com ...Extraction failed error <--

It seems the problem is that the fat32 device gets mounted as
drwxrwxrwx 5 guest users 4.0K Jan 1 1970 sdb1/

no "extraction error" if the same device is mounted as
drwxrwxrwx 5 root root 4.0K Jan 1 1970 sdb1/

How to reproduce:
Boot the device in copy2ram mode [so you can unmount it].

ls -lh /mnt
if mounted guest users the installer fails with ... Extraction failed

unmount the device > open terminal > su to root > mount the device as root.

check again ls -lh /mnt - device should now be mounted root root

as root run the Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com > no Extraction failed error.

Not recommended.... :)

In "install.txt"
Installing Porteus through Linux is similar to installing through
Windows. You must have root (super user) priveleges on your system in
order to run the installation script.
execute the Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com script:

sh Porteus.installer-for-Linux.com

*NOTE* If you are not running as root already, you must use the su or
sudo command and enter your root password before starting this script,
or it will not be able to configure your device properly.

just to try it :

(AS GUEST )

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:/mnt/sdb1/boot$ sh Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com_V5.0rc3
Verifying archive integrity... 100% MD5 checksums are OK. All good.
Uncompressing Porteus Installer 100%
which: no sfdisk in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games)

The following utilities are required and missing from your system:

sfdisk

Please install necessary packages and run the installer again.

And, in the hidden folder created ".porteus_installer" try the script "installer.com" :

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:/mnt/sdb1/boot/.porteus_installer$ bash installer.com
which: no sfdisk in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games)
The following utilities are required and missing from your system:

sfdisk

Please install necessary packages and run the installer again.

Thank you very much donald !

it works now when I use a file manager as root (in priority), unmount with the right click, mount it, then open the terminal to run the script !
