Lots of wording but I don't know if it's working :D
Since I already activated Chromium this session I wait until reboot.

I just have to remember testing default browser prior activating Chromium and after activating Chromium (and running Chromium) and after deactivating Chromium, then I know and will report here. :)
Cheers!

Maybe this is how the terminal has always functioned, but it's wrong -- I used "Select All" and "Copy" in an attempt to capture the results of "modinfo b43", pasted it into Mousepad, and saved the resulting text file, but when I opened it on a machine with Firefox, all the text not visible on the screen was missing -- the only way to "Select All" is by manually scrolling and selecting it all! Please fix.

The browser tool won't install Firefox; it downloads update-firefox-live, announces that "work will be done in /tmp", and freezes.

Some characters in the system font are truncated at the top, e.g. the serif on "1" -- in the terminal and other applications they display correctly. I changed resolution from 1450x1050 to 1280x1024 but it made no difference.

It's being worked on. :)

Added in 3 minutes 13 seconds:
Low Disk Space warning on a Dell/Windows system partition every time I boot is getting to be annoying. And the "disk space remaining" is 173.6 MB.

Could you try use a Linux filesystem instead of /tmp ?
Like /mnt/sda3 when sda3 is e.g. ext3, ext4, reiserfs - not VFAT or NTFS.

Could be insufficient free space but the script not gets that by itself.

The parameters would be:

Code: Select all

cd /into/linux/filesystem/
update-browser -d -f
(make sure /into/linux/filesystem/ is a valid path to a linux filesystem with enough free space)
Cheers!

Rava, /tmp is a Linux file system; I never use FAT32 and a savefile.

I created a separate directory (/temp) outside of Porteus (in an ext4 partition), opened a terminal and issued the command "update-browser -d -f" -- the script downloaded update-firefox-live, it announced that work would be done in /temp, then froze.

>>> SSL support error <<<
Otter browser works on Porteus 4.0,
but Otter browser does not work on Porteus 5.0
see here:
Howto: Popular AppImages one click away
The error message appears:
"SSL support is not availabel or incomplete.
Some websites may work incorrectly or do not work at all"
And indeed:
many many sites don't work at all

Just my 5th day wid Porteus 5.0-rc3 CINNAMON and I haven't been able to set the clock so that it stays after reboot or shutdown. Also tested Porteus 4.0 CINNAMON and had no problem wid setting the clock there, but it had NVIDIA issues (I think?) since FHD worked great on test machine wid just onboard Intel graphics. Still, Porteus 5.0-rc3 is so great in this RC stage that I'm using it more than any other Distro (Puppy, Fedora Cin SPIN, AlmaLinux, Slackware, EuroLinux 8.5 KDE Plasma and CentOS Stream). No expert & Win11 Pro is my primary OS, but I test a lot of Linuxes, and use 7-8 of them regularly...well, until I tried 5.0-rc3.

Porteus-v5.0rc3 x86_64 bug reports

Post#165 by Testuser » 05 Apr 2022, 17:20

Hi Team,

I found a bug in Porteus-v5.0rc3 x86_64 LXDE. The top taskbar is extending out and volume button, network icon, time are streching out of the monitor screen when I open multiple folders. :(

Folders size is not reducing. I thought this might be due to custom xzm package I created, but found the same issue with default boot with no other packages loaded.

I dont know whether this was addressed earlier.

I check the panel settings and nothing helped. :)

Thanks.
