Hello pedro,

Try FAT32 or exFAT.

Have you tried a USB install?

How many partitions does your emmc drive have? And what's on them? Are you multi-booting other OSs?

Could it be that the kernel is older than your hardware? Is it possible to try Porteus 5 RC2?

PORTEUS DESKTOP 4. not found my HDD

Post#7 by roadie » 08 Apr 2021, 19:46

@pedrojinta,

It seems to be a common problem with EMMC. I would partition the entire thing, rather than leaving an unformatted section. Maybe a FAT32 for booting and an EXT4 for the rest. I found when I installed another ssd to my machine that it wasn't seen in the bios, or by Porteus until it was partitioned and formatted.

Check the specs of your machine online, you may find it has a socket for an M.2 ssd.......a long shot, but costs nothing to look.

I have tried too, but not found, but DSL recognized and install, even Salckware, but slackware uses lot of space.

PORTEUS DESKTOP 4. not found my HDD

Post#13 by nanZor » 05 Nov 2021, 10:17

Hi Pedrojinta - don't sweat it. Gparted on Porteus won't see an emmc, but the system will actually work with it. This may be just a precaution to help prevent some from accidentally wiping out the existing OS on the emmc soldered on board. The SpaceFM file manager will see it and you can mount and move files into and out of the mmc devices.

One fast solution is to simply install and run Porteus from external usb flash drives, rather than install to the internal emmc. I tend to use small Samsung "Ultra Fit" drives for this purpose so they don't stick out so much.

If you are adventerous you can burn and boot something like Gparted-Live to mess around with your box emmc. Gparted-Live (or other distros perhaps) WILL see that emmc, and you can repartition and reformat most of it.

I'll leave the rest to you since I have never installed Porteus directly to an internal emmc device. I'm sure it can be done, but I prefer the portability of Porteus using external boot and data storage.
That's a UNIX book - cool. -Garth
