Porteus 5.0 RC2 bug reports

Post#91 by Ed_P » 23 Aug 2020, 01:06

The Create New File function in make-changes from RC1 works in RC2 thought the window is a little wide. :D

Added in 13 hours 46 minutes 12 seconds:
RC2 eats batteries when the lid is closed on my notebook. Battery 100% before going to bed, ~1% when I get up and I have to reboot to get back to Porteus.

Image

Added in 3 hours 40 minutes 9 seconds:
.Trash-1000 :shock: And found.000 :o On my NTFS drive. :crazy:

Inside the .Trash folder are two folders; files and info. Inside files folder are all the 5.0 rc files I had been testing with and deleted the other day using 5.0 RC2. Inside the info folder are *.trashinfo files, one for each file in the files folder, stating the original location of the deleted file and the date it was deleted.

Why is 5.0 RC2 creating Trash folders on Windows drives???

@Ed_P, now you know what setting you should change in order to suspend when the lid is closed, right? :)

Yes, finally non-POSIX partitions have support to trash. Isn't amazing? :) If you want to delete for real just press SHIFT + delete.

Actually no. I don't see Suspend as an option for When the Lid is Closed, AC or Battery mode. Shutdown immediately, Lock Screen, Do nothing. That's all that's listed.

On a non-POSIX drive Delete should default to Delete, like it always did. If someone selects Trash, on a non-POSIX drive, then warn them that a .Trash folder will be created. Does Delete default to Trash on other Linux systems?

Hi Ed
Where exactly was the Trash folder?

I have a NTFS formatted usb-stick with 5.0rc2-xfce on it and the Trash folder
/home/guest/local/share/Trash is inside the save.dat file.
[which I had to create using another version of porteus]

It is on the same NTFS drive that the files were on and showed when I viewed the drive as root. :o And do note the name starts with a dot.

As to the suspend issue, I can confirm this, a quick fix is using dconf-editor to change the settings. It's under org/cinnamon/setting-daemon/plugins/power

Cinnamon 19.x Power Settings - How to expand options available for critical battery states. :o

I like it Blaze. :good:

-update-

5.0's cs_power.py lines 607-628

Code: Select all

    lid_options = [
        ("suspend", _("Suspend")),
        ("shutdown", _("Shutdown immediately")),
        ("hibernate", _("Hibernate")),
        ("blank", _("Lock Screen")),
        ("nothing", _("Do nothing"))
    ]

    button_power_options = [
        ("blank", _("Lock Screen")),
        ("suspend", _("Suspend")),
        ("shutdown", _("Shutdown immediately")),
        ("hibernate", _("Hibernate")),
        ("interactive", _("Ask")),
        ("nothing", _("Do nothing"))
    ]

    critical_options = [
        ("shutdown", _("Shutdown immediately")),
        ("hibernate", _("Hibernate")),
        ("nothing", _("Do nothing"))
    ]
Suspend is definitely listed. :hmmm:

Yeah, dconf-editor was removed because it's non-essential and it's for advanced users only, so they can download it from some repository. :good:

The power problem is more complicated than suspected.

Image

dconf Editor shows the lid action is already set to Suspend, but Power Management is showing it set to Lock Screen, with no option for Suspend. Personally I would like to see it do both when the lid is closed. :)

Added in 23 hours 28 minutes 39 seconds:
And

Code: Select all

root@porteus:/home/guest# gsettings get org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-battery-action
'suspend'
root@porteus:/home/guest#
Added in 15 hours 4 minutes 24 seconds:
I tried Albert's suggestion but the Power Management window hasn't changed. I will leave the notebook unplugged tonight and see what the battery looks like in the morning.

powerfix.sh

Code: Select all

Added in 19 minutes 8 seconds:
:o And then there is this series of commands, with the 1st one the most surprising,

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ gsettings get org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-battery-action
'blank'
guest@porteus:~$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/home/guest# gsettings get org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-battery-action
'suspend'
root@porteus:/home/guest# exit
exit
guest@porteus:~$ gsettings set org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-battery-action suspend
guest@porteus:~$ gsettings get org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-battery-action
'suspend'
guest@porteus:~$
gsettings seems to be included in 5.0 and does what the dconf-editor apt does. :)
The Power Management window now shows the Battery Lid closed option as blank. :) I think the apt needs work. :happy62:

Now to see what the overnight brings. :)

Added in 8 hours 14 minutes 27 seconds:
Battery 72% this morning. :Yahoo!:

I think the gsettings edit as guest did it. :celebrate14: Will reboot and try just it to verify.

Porteus 5.0 RC2 bug reports

Post#102 by Payoon » 27 Aug 2020, 13:16

Hi folks,
First thank You for Porteus 5 RC2. Looks fine and all my old modules seem to work. I have though a small (hopefully) problem. I cannot adjust my brightness with the FN > and FN < keys. I have tried

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi=linux"
but that seems to work only with grub 2. I am confident it is not a big thing, because in my beloved Porteus 3.2.2 the keys work fine. But I want to upgrade to Porteus 5 so does anyone have an idea to solve this?

Stay all healthy.

There is a connection between the Lid Closed battery drain problem and the Power Management app. In AF mode the app shows the option as blank but gsettings shows it as set to the desired suspend option. A user seeing it as blank in the app will change it and suspend isn't listed as an option.

AF mode settings:

Code: Select all

+ gsettings get org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-display-battery
1800
+ gsettings get org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-battery-timeout
0
+ gsettings get org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-battery-action
'suspend'
+ gsettings get org.cinnamon.settings-daemon.plugins.power critical-battery-action
'hibernate'
