How to install Porteus 5.0 and Broadcom BCM43142 802.11b/g/n (rev 01) Linux wifi driver
Hey, I am new to this porteus distro, and trying to install porteus on a 8gb Pendrive from a 2gb Pendrive.
So the 2gb pendrive boots up fine and can run the pretty system easily without any hassle (Used Rufus to create it).
Now as I launch porteus-installer over it to install porteus on 8gb Pendrive( formatted ext4 and GPT partition table), it installs without any hiccup but when I reboot it doesn't even show on boot menu. Researched and then tried the copy method to copy the contents of iso using mloop and copying it to pendrive and running the installer-for-Linux.com from elevated shell but still not bootable.
After hassling over it for a week tried it with MBR partition table and it boots perfectly over after switching on Legacy support in bios mode. But I want to boot it over UEFI mode only. Any idea or help will be greatly appreciated.
Ps. Also your forum is getting too much outdated.. not to complain or something but installation methods and even your website offers 2.0 as download when clicking on first link. After that I can see Porteus 4.0 released banner and clicking it I get mirror links. Hope you guys can update it a bit!

Help with installation of Porteus from one usb(Live) to another usb
Hello kusha.
EFI only recognizes FAT drives. So format the 8gb drive as FAT32 and install Porteus to it using the instructions in the Porteus ISO. Once it boots post back and we can talk about saving changes.
Added in 8 hours 40 minutes 37 seconds:
Also make sure you have the EFI Secure Boot option disabled.

Help with installation of Porteus from one usb(Live) to another usb
Hi Ed,
I tried the above method but it didn't work.
1. I tried running Porteus Installer and after trying that it didn't boot up.
2. I again formatted the pendrive and then tried copying the files from iso and running the bash script.
It doesn't show up in the boot menu still. Also secure boot is off

Ok, the drive has EFI support. Your drive FAT32 now? And you ran the Porteus-installer for the drive? So, does it boot now?

Yup it is FAT32 formatted and I ran porteus installer but it doesn't transfer EFI folder to the pendrive so it doesn't show up in boot!

According to the ls command you posted the EFI folder is on the drive.
The porteus installer doesn't copy the files, it makes the drive bootable.kushagratandon wrote: ↑11 Jun 2020, 18:14Code: Select all

Porteus can be installed to a flash drive or hard drive in several ways. FOR EFI SYSTEMS: Ensure the first partition is of type FAT32. a) Copy the EFI, boot and porteus folders onto the FAT32 partition. You may create a second partition with a linux filesystem for the porteus folder.

So, you:
formatted the drive as FAT32,
you copied the 3 folders (EFI, boot, porteus) and 1 file (USB_INSTALLATION.txt) from the ISO/CD to the formatted drive
and then you ran the Porteus install? Yes?
Mixing up the sequence doesn't work.

Also new update! Tried to the same using Windows and running the installer-for-Windows.exe. That too didn't work
So can I just RUFUS the iso to pendrive? Will it be same as installation?
Because RUFUS works to make it bootable!

I've never used RUFUS so I can't answer that. Years ago I used Easy2Boot. http://rmprepusb.blogspot.com/2014/02/b ... un-it.html

Bootable!! Yea How'd you do it, RUFUS?
To save changes to the EXT3 partition you need to tweak the porteus.cfg file to add the changes= parameter to the APPEND line. Exactly how to specify the EXT3 partition I don't know, I've never used a 2nd partition on a flash drive.
Not sure what you mean by "getting updates". Porteus isn't Windows.
Your wifi and Bluetooth problems will need more technical help.
