extlinux 4.04 boot problem

Extlinux 4.04 on porteus 1.0 32 bit has boot problem esp on HP Pavilion series. At boot time machine freezes. I come up with this problem to use slack 6.1.2 syslinux version.
For next release please take attention to extlinux version to solve boot problem to all PC's.

Welcome on board!

This issue should be resolved on next release.

From Porteus 64bit Real Time ChangeLog
- added statically compiled 32bit lilo, syslinux and extlinux (extlinux segfaulted during execution and it had to be compiled with standard glibc - has noticeable bigger size)
Does it solve your problem ?

I hope this will be done for 32bit too.

@oranus
extlinux is for ext-2/3/4 fs while syslinux is for FAT. does it mean that you had to reformat your pendrive to use syslinux from slax-6.1.2?
at what stage booting hangs? does it work on other PC's than HP Pavilion series? what's the last line of text visible on the screen after failure? will you be able to provide a photo of the error?

@Hamza

yes

Hi fanthom,
I use Proteus 1.0 on Sony, Acer, Toshiba laptops with any problem. But this problem occurs only HP Pavilion.
Problem occurs at boot time. Extlinux 4.04 vs. writes on screen and then laptop freeze.
I solve this problem to use older version of syslinux.

Another problem of Hp Pavilon is brightness. After kde screen brightness very low to work. As if laptop power cable is off. But it's not. Interesting thing is after close the monitor and open up brightness is perfect. How can I came up with this problem?

I try your solution but it doesn't work. HP Pavilion vga is 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller.

Hi Hamza,
Thanks for your welcoming.

I search the distro which works without any problem to all PC to laptops. Then I found the Porteus. I try lots off live distro but none off them to solve driver problem. But only Porteus. For me it's the king of the live distro. I thank to you and the other developers to make this best live distro.

I hope next release will be much portable to run all PC.

Thanks to all Porteus Team...

I try your solution but it doesn't work.
are you sure you have done everything correctly?
did you add

Code: Select all

setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00
to /etc/rc.d/rc.local?
and

Code: Select all

acpi_osi=Linux
to boot parameters in /boot/porteus.cfg?
please double check - just in case. if that wont solve your problem then pls wait 4 weeks for rc1 of 32bit Porteus-1.1 with 3.1 kernel.
I thank to you and the other developers to make this best live distro.
thanks for your words
