Xarchiver fails to handel .tar archives

I have noticed that the version of Xarchiver provided by Porteus v1.0 at this date fails to open/extract .tar files created by conventional tools.
The same files can be opened as usual by the use of ark or good old CLI.
I would like to coment that Xarchiver is an app which is always buggy. Even the version found on Debian Stable has mayor quirks. May I suggest it to be dropped and sustituted by file-roller, if dependencies are not a nightmare?
