I am using Nate, great job by the way, I am having the problem that when I activate a module when it updates , the panel disappears and the only way to get it back is by ctrl+alt+backspace it has happened more than once since installing Version 3.2 , this morning at 5:00 am,

How do I edit the launchers in the applications folder , if I right click I get no option to edit them.

Thanks

@Payoon
Please show the contents of the file: etc/profile.d/lang.sh

@ralcocer
can't get the xfce desktop ( 32bit) to display german language
Please show what happens when you type (as guest): mate-panel --replace

@ Brokenman
the content of lang.sh is:
#!/bin/bash
# File generated by Porteus Language-Selection tool

#export LC_ALL=de_DE.utf8
export LANG=de_DE.utf8
export LC_COLLATE=C
.
I should mention one more thing. After the four language files are in modules folder, I reboot and after reboot I want to shutdown it is not possible. The buttons for shutdown and reboot are inactive. Only the logout button is active.
I had the same thing with rc 5 please look here http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 726#p48726.
It seemed to be something with the glibc library.
Anyway thanks a lot for porteus 3.2

I just updated the language script to fix the permissions problem Blaze reported. Rebooted and seems to work ok now. The glibc package is definitely there for i586. Please try again now. Remove the existing language modules and download new ones through porteus-settings-centre.

@Brokenman
sorry,everything is still in English. What is solved however is that I can shutdown/reboot normally now even with these modules in the module folder. That is one step forward already.
Will try with another language to confirm.
Payoon

Cont. Spanish didn't work either.
What I observed though are warnings in the terminal f.e.:
Process 2084: Locale not supported by C library
using the fallback C locale
This Message is sent for different processes.
Don't know how to interprete this.

Cinnamon 64 Bit

Porteus System Info > Drives
Image
  • Freeze occurs upon clicking USB after Drives have been dispayed, or after Drives displayed, USB displayed and Partitions clicked. In the former case USB not displayed, and in latter Partitions not displayed,
  • Trying to close the window might result in the Force Quit popup shown, or if not, after trying to close, hitting Cancel gets it.
  • Hitting Force Quit works, but a couple of minutes later get popup about unsolicited psinfo being placed in /root:

Payoon, the languages should be working now. I tested German which seems to be working. Please remove all language related modules and try again now. Thanks Bogomips, will boot into Cinnamon now.

EDIT:
Seems to work ok in cinnamon here. Tried with a variety of USB drives.

Not a breaking bug but I thought I mention it. While I was testing on a guest account which required rebooting with some changes from fresh mode. I ran this:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ save-changes /mnt/sdb1/test.xzm
Please enter your root password below
Password:

save-changes /path/to/resulting/module.xzm

You must give a path to save your changes to.
guest@porteus:~$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/home/guest# save-changes /mnt/sdb1/test.xzm

Parallel mksquashfs: Using 2 processors
Creating 4.0 filesystem on /mnt/sdb1/test.xzm, block size 262144.
[=\                                                          ]   345/11436   3%^CError building compressed image

Your changes module has been created!
/mnt/sdb1/test.xzm

root@porteus:/home/guest#
If I run save-changes with a path as guest on terminal, even if you enter toor password after, it will prevent the process being performed.

When I switch to root mode in terminal before running the command. The action performs as it should.

I used ctrl+c to abort the process so I could quickly copy and paste the log just to note.

@Brokenman
well here's what if done so far:
downloaded the iso with the 4.8.7 kernel
removed all 4 language modules
used the settings centre to create new modules and rebootet

But the result was the same XFCE in english.

Then I did all the above with cinnamon desktop ( removed the modules from xfce before)
Funny: The main menu was in german, the nemo filemanager in english ( as well as the other applications)
When i looked into the modules folder I found the
de-xfce4_locales.xzm
module, while expecting something with cinnamon_locales.
Brokenman I know you are very busy now, so all this can be put on the backburner.

In the meantime I will try kde. Thanks a lot anyway.

It must have been a lot of hard work and a lot of sleepless nights, no?
so first of all, thanks for 3.2 - XFCE 32 bit (12. Nov)

The first thing i always do is to change the height of the Panel, choose a different color
and / or theme.But doing so one can watch the mismatching/disappearing icons in the Panel.
Yep,it has always been this way....,don't break with Tradition.

Thunar crashed 3 times in a row while going up in the filetree.(parent directory)

Porteus system info -- app freezes at drives tab
One can do nothing but close the window:
"This window might be busy and is not responding.
Do you want to terminate the application?"
Even if one does not answer this message yes/no, the app will close after a while.
/var/log/messages:
Nov 13 10:44:14 porteus kernel: [ 1356.441758] floppy: error -5 while reading block 0
Nov 13 10:44:27 porteus kernel: [ 1368.763599] floppy: error -5 while reading block 0
............
Nov 13 10:54:27 porteus kernel: [ 1968.932266] floppy: error -5 while reading block 0
Nov 13 10:54:39 porteus kernel: [ 1981.291646] floppy: error -5 while reading block 0
(Psi closed itself)
Well, this behavior (freeze) is nothing new -- it does so even in 2.0

German Language does not work, got these Files:
de-core_locales.xzm
de-devel_locales.xzm
de-xfce4_locales.xzm
de_DE-locales-files.xzm
glibc-i18n-i586-1jay.xzm
--> reboot --> still english

btw
the patched nvidia 304.131 run file is still working on 4.8.7 to build a driver
for older nvidia cards.

cheers

You need to select cinnamon from the dropdown list on the right of the GUI. XFCE is default.

People with language module problems please show the permissions on:
/etc/profile.d
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh

and the output of: locale -av
