I just a bug I think. In Applications/Internet there 2 Google Chrome in the menu area. If one can be delete, just tell me how to delete one. If it is something else can it be fixed?
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

@ncmprhnsbl
Thanks for the catch. Fixed permissions in live script now.
Added super user for caja to menu.
Can't get caja-actions to buid here so no context menu options.

@Donald
Please remove palemoon which was screwing up permissions. You can issue: update-palemoon to get a new working version.
XFCE-32 Bit
audio mixer > "lock channels together" has no icon

Can you explain this further or perhaps give a screeny?

@Bour59
Fixed for next release. Thanks.

@Blaze
The MATE one looks like a firefox bug. Does it happen with same firefox under other desktop?
Will tackle KDE stuff in another post. Thanks.
How do i become super user?

@Blaze re: kde stuff
1. djvudigital needs the ghostscript program GSDjVu (released by AT&T under CPL, so binaries cannot be distributed, but source code can be compiled)

2. The accountstest file fails because telepathy was not included. Since libaccounts is only 80K i will include it in the next release.

3. ar doesn't run because it will need binutils and maybe flex which are in the 05_devel module or you can run: getpkg binutils flex

4. konqueror was removed so dolphin4 wont run. Dolphin should get things done. I also added some missing files and fixed permissions so samba works in dolphin.

5. Spectacle is fixed. Screenshots save in ~/Pictures

6. fsview also fixed

@Ed_P
I was hoping that the broadcom kernel drivers would function better. Looks like I will have to compile the driver separately (Adds around 8Mb)
Please download the driver from here and let me know if it works.

@Ed_P

Cinnamon Timings for Loading Porteus Data from ISO

That mentioned before, was just a subjective estimate. Now to a more objective timing.
  • Black Screen. Number of Modules left to load: 4 3 2 1, after which screen goes black. Start of timing is when this happens.
  • Beach Scene. End of timing.
Please bear in mind this is just comparative, as there is rootcopy with activations in rc.local and guiexec with activations as well.

32 bit: 42 seconds

3.2 rc2 XFCE

ePDFViewer does not display .gif images in .pdf documents.

The cheatcode volume=0% did not set the volume on start-up (maybe this cheatcode is no longer supported). I did set the volume via the XFCE panel, and the setting was remembered between start-ups.

I would have liked to see xarchiver as this is something I use a lot. But have said that, we can most probably download it.

And .. great default background wallpaper, by the way.

With the MediterraneanDarkest theme pulse-plugin goes wild.
and some missing / bad icon screeshots:

Porteus system info works as long as one do not select "logs > messages"
every new selected category will only show the messages window.
The drives tab freezes the whole app:
floppy: error -5 while reading block 0
(there is none)

:Yahoo!: The driver works on my netbook. :Yahoo!: In fact I am posting from 3.2rc2.

I couldn't post initially cause the ISO doesn't have a browser. I downloaded the Opera one and it is what I am using. I tried a Firefox module from nemesis but it wouldn't come up. A Firefox module from my 3.0.1 system comes up ok.

Opera doesn't open to the Porteus home page. And in the menu it is listed as Opera developer, twice. The 3.0.1 Firefox module doesn't open to the Porteus home page either.

:)

P.S.

FWIW Porteus 3.0.1 with a lot of modules has a blank screen for 15 seconds when booting the ISO verses 3.2 with 3 modules has it for 23 seconds.

Mate

I try to start GParted it first ask for password and GParted just close out without even try to start. I use Terminal and ran gparted here is the output.

Code: Select all

root@porteus:/home/guest# gparted
/usr/sbin/gpartedbin: error while loading shared libraries: libgiomm-2.4.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
root@porteus:/home/guest#
Then I ran USM and updated database I search for libgiomm-2.4.so.1 it found glibmm-2.36.2-x86_64-1_slack.txz but it didn't download it.

What should I do?

EDIT:

I went to Slackware.com/packages and downloaded glibmm-2.46.4-x86_64-1.txz then convert it to xzm activate it. Now it runs like it should.

@ brokenman This file glibmm-2.46.4-x86_64-1.txz needs to be added to Mate. And thanks for all your work.

I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

Mate

I try P7ZIP File Manager and it didn't work form Menu or Terminal mode. I don't know how to do any more testing on it.

Jack open a root terminal and type: getpkg glibmm
I will check out why it is missing. Thanks.

@3.2rc2 Mate, Xfce and Cinnamon: PXE client fails with "Porteus data not found"
Discovered this yesterday. Not sure why but will try to find out why PXE isn't working in 3.2

Does this work without the rarlinux package?: unrar x file.rar
How do i become super user?
