Re: Porteus-3.2rc2 bug reports
[Solved] XFCE-32 Bit on ext4 + Palemoon module
can confirm what Donald says. When the Palemoon module is activated manually after boot is finished no problem I can reboot or shutdown by clicking the button. When Palemoon is autoactivated in the base folder by booting, the buttons for reboot and shutdown in the shutdown-menu are deactivated.
Shutdown by cli is possible but a lot of warnings from pulseaudio.
All this does not happen with firefox.
One other small thing: When I want to download the language module from the settings center it says I'm not connected to the internet and stops,
but I am connected. So far no big story, because I can use the locales module from my beloved Porteus 2.1 (which was in use until 8th of May).
Other than that: Great work! Thank You!

I can add that using Porteus 3.2rc2 as PXE server and PartedMagic *) as client, the client boots successfully and has internet access.@3.2rc2 Mate, Xfce and Cinnamon: PXE client fails with "Porteus data not found"
Discovered this yesterday. Not sure why but will try to find out why PXE isn't working in 3.2

Re: Porteus-3.2rc2 bug reports
I'm reporting some missing libraries on the XFCE 32bit version, of various importance. None seem essential for a basic use, but I guess some will lead to unexpected problems, especially the lack of libLLVM-3.8.so, required by several X11 drivers, and the lack of libdb-4.8, required by most rpm-handling programs and libs.
Here is the full list of missing dependencies I detected, together with the executables and libraries that need it for you to judge which are more or less important.
libboost_program_options.so.1.59.0, required by /usr/bin/pamixer (reported by someone already).
libdb-4.8.so, required by many programs:
/usr/sbin/arpd
/usr/bin/rpm2archive
/usr/bin/rpm2cpio
/usr/bin/rpmbuild
/usr/bin/rpmdb
/usr/bin/rpmgraph

Re: Porteus-3.2rc2 bug reports
Trying KDE version here, have two serious problems, both due to my hardware, I think:
-- no 304-level Nvidia driver available? My funky ASRock mobo onboard video is always identified as using the 340-level driver, but those don't work at all on this board, for any distro. Nouveau is also flakey. I tried to generate my own from an Nvidia 304-xxx.run file I had onhand, but the script fails, think due to the newness of compiler and such? I booted with the 005-develop and the crippled sources modules, compile still fails. [note, had to use 304 with earlier Port 3.1 also] [some day I'll stop buying cheap mobos]
-- on my other desktop, video with 340-xx nvidia is fine, but the driver for onboard Realtek NIC fails, so I have no network. This is another case of mobo [gigabyte] mis-ID I think; distros always supply r8169 driver, but it really needs r8168. Linux distros usually inform me it is a R8111/R8168 nic. Realtek offers source that compiles and works on older distros, but compile fails on rc2. This is a well-known problem with that NIC hardware.
-- I assume that I'll still need 32-bit compatibility modules to run my Wine windows apps? Wine considered very important here.
-- tried the Cinnamon version first, but gave up when I couldn't find a setting to switch mouse to 'left-handed'

Cinnamon Crash & Boot
Experienced first irretrievable Cinnamon crash. Efforts to recover resulted in System Crash.
Gave an opportunity for a Timing for Booting from ISO File on hdd. So, for non barebones boot, from hitting Enter at Grub Menu till reaching the Seashore: 56 seconds.

One other small thing: When I want to download the language module from the settings center
The RC versions of Porteus dont implement the language functions. I fixed the palemoon updater as soon as I heard about the problem. It should be ok now.
@burdi01
Thanks, that's good to know that the client is the problem. If you can help trouble shooting it would be great. Last night I had two virtualboxes opened and was testing PXE booting between them and checking the logs on the PXE server. Everything looked ok in the logs before I fell asleep on the keyboard.
@Evan
The homepage isn't set to duckduckgo but if you type something directly into the address bar it should use duckduckgo as the search engine. After searching you should see the string 'porteus' in the address bar which is how they know the search eminated from a porteus user. Thanks for using it and supporting us.
@Biotec.
Thanks. There are quite a few missing libs. I will need to add libLLVM (it freakin huge) and will weed through the others to see what's essential.
@burninbush
Blaze made the nVidia driver available for 64bit but I haven't received anything for 32bit as yet. My unit with an nVidia card died some months ago. Thanks for mentioning the mouse thing in Cinnamon. It lead to finding a problem with the control-center missing a while bunch of stuff.
@Bogomips
Thanks I will look into this unrar thing. I was sure I was using this week without any troubles on basic rar files. There will no doubt be an RC3. Starting to wish I only released two desktops now.
56 second startup is horrid. I will do detailed boot speed tests soon. I get up in under 30 seconds on an i7. The extra text you see during boot is just when it passes over to slim. It spews some text which can be gleaned from the logs. If you want to see it you can boot to text mode and then use: startx 2>/tmp/start.log

Re: Porteus-3.2rc2 bug reports
Hello,
I confirm somebody else's observation that epdfview doesn't show images in pdf files (or fails with mine at least); in my case they are pictures generated with octave as eps files and then converted to pdf. As a solution I installed xpdf and motif slackware packages and it works great on the XFCE 32-bit version. From motif, only the libXm.so library is required for xpdf to run, so xpdf-3.04-i586-2.txz + libXm.so (taken from motif-2.3.5-i586-1.txz) are enough instead of epdfview.
Regards.
