USM bug reports

Please reproduce your error on a second machine before posting, and check the error by running without saved changes or extra modules (See FAQ No. 13, "How to report a bug"). For unstable Porteus versions (alpha, beta, rc) please use the relevant thread in our "Development" section.

Happened last time also when alien was being updated. Don't know if that's a clue or a coincidence.

Tried USM GUI Update all twice.

1st time it hung on the "Updating config file" after salix update.

2nd time it hung on the "Updating config file" after slacky update.

Also when Starting slacky database update there was a awk: fatal: error trying to read a file in /tmp/ folder.

Cut / copy and paste from the USM terminal window not possible.

USM 3.1.14

App beginning to seem unstable.

If it is hanging in these places then your connection is unstable not the app. This is the section where is downloads from the server. I just tested and it is doing updates.

Unlikely. It's a high speed cable connection.

The flag that indicates a database has been updated gets set, when rerun databases are being skipped as having been updated in the past 24 hrs. BTW IMO I think the default rerun time period should be 6 hrs not 24 hrs.

Unconfirmed.

Will change it for next release.

Cut / copy and paste from the USM terminal window not possible.
Unconfirmed. ctrl + shift + C works fine.

Feel free to download a stable alternative.

Bogomips I just tried vlc on i486 from a fresh KDE install and couldn't reproduce the error. Please update database and recheck. This error often occurs when there is a mismatch between the slackware server and the local database files. I am working on implementing a message indicating the problem.

Ah! Forgot about the extra key Linux adds. ctrl+C is all DOS/Windows systems use.

But when I try the 3 key approach nothing is getting copied. In Leafpad when I try ctrl+shift+V, and shift+Ins, and Edit and even right click the mouse for paste option nothing is getting pasted.

    I'm ok with 3 hours.
Ah! Forgot about the extra key Linux adds.
In unix ctrl + c was traditionally the 'kill' or 'interrupt' stroke to end programs in the terminal. ctrl + v traditionally stood for 'verbatim' insert. The different key combinations hold the text in different buffers. Think of it like, ctrl + c is the system wide GUI buffer and ctrl + shit + c is for terminals (although not all). ctrl + v is GUI paste and either ctrl + shift + v or 'shift insert ' is for terminals.
ctrl+C is all DOS/Windows systems use
If I am not mistaken all windows versions still support 'ctrl + insert' to copy and 'shift insert' to paste.

Do you mean you've altered the path for these directories in the config file? I haven't tested the problem in this scenario. It could conceivably be reading an old database file elsewhere on the system.

    OK. Thanks fo rthat. But:
    a. USM GUI's Terminal window is not the same as LXTerminal's window. Ctrl+shift+C doesn't not work in it.
    b. USM GUI's Updates Update all is currently hung on line below the "Updating config file" after "alien database updated".
ctrl+C is all DOS/Windows systems use
If I am not mistaken all windows versions still support 'ctrl + insert' to copy and 'shift insert' to paste.
Yes, that got written wrong. It should have been "is in all DOS/Windows systems that I have used". They also support "shift+del" to cut.
    Sarcasm doesn't suit you.
Sorry. It was a reflex to a snide remark.
I understand you took it that way but it was meant as an honest observation.

Do note the above mentioned update is still hung.

USM GUI's Terminal window is not the same as LXTerminal's window. Ctrl+shift+C doesn't not work in it.
Yes you're right. This is a hybrid. A terminal wrapped in a GUI and I am of the mind to change it. After the update finishes none of the common USM commands will work. No variables are exported here. In any case if you stick to the 'ctrl + insert' (copy) and 'shift + insert' (paste) you should be good in all scenarios.

That link you pasted looks odd. It is all garbled text like perhaps you pasted an image in there.

Bogomips, yes that is another hint, thanks. I will test the alternative directory setup tonight.

I'm having no problems updating USM databases, everything just works. This is with USM version 3.1.4.

I can also cut and paste from the update terminal the same way as any other terminal, browser, etc:, by highlighting and using the middle button of the mouse.

Am I missing something here? I don't understand where these update problems are coming from.

Granted, I don't use a lot of scripts to do basic stuff, nor do I use a savefile.dat...I just make things easy and save to a partition.....a decently sized partition.

Then again, I was always something of a rebel...it's why I use Linux.
