USM bug reports

Please reproduce your error on a second machine before posting, and check the error by running without saved changes or extra modules (See FAQ No. 13, "How to report a bug"). For unstable Porteus versions (alpha, beta, rc) please use the relevant thread in our "Development" section.

All usm versions create this file upon startup. It is a list of all system libraries.

Regarding the LIBS.TXT file missing problem.

I removed the .wh files from the save.dat file, it didn't help.

I then tried this:
brokenman wrote: http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 344#p31483

If you want to remove everything manually and see if it helps you can:

Code: Select all

rm -rf /etc/usm
rm /usr/man/man8/usm.8.gz
rm -rf /usr/share/usm
rm /usr/share/applications/usm.desktop
rm /usr/bin/{usm*,packagetools}
rm -rf /var/usm
Then reinstall the latest. Please DO NOT do this while using changes=EXIT cheatcode.
I tried this.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/home/guest# rm -rf /etc/usm
root@porteus:/home/guest# rm /usr/man/man8/usm.8.gz
root@porteus:/home/guest# rm -rf /usr/share/usm
root@porteus:/home/guest# rm /usr/share/applications/usm.desktop
root@porteus:/home/guest# rm     /usr/bin/{usm*,packagetools}
root@porteus:/home/guest# rm -rf /var/usm
root@porteus:/home/guest# usm -v
bash: usm: command not found
root@porteus:/home/guest#
The LIBS.TXT error problem is gone. Unfortunately so to is USM. How do I reinstall USM?

Hi Don

Thanks for the link. :good:

Before I tried the download option I rebooted to Always Fresh mode, ran the USM GUI, updated USM from 3.1.4 to 3.1.7, closed and restarted the GUI, updated all the databases, closed and restarted the GUI, searched for Firefox, found 3, tried to download the 31.5 versions, with the Resolve Dependencies option enabled, both downloads failed with LIBS.TXT missing errors.

As noted, Always Fresh mode, booting the 3.0.1 RazorQt ISO. I will try later with a 3.1 LXQt ISO. (I've basically given up with 3.1 due to the kernel problem and demise of LXQt but haven't deleted it yet.)

Thanks again.

Can anyone else confirm? I can't reproduce this on a fresh xfce install (desktop should be irrelevant) updated to latest database. No problems getting firefox

I suspect the problem is linked to booting from an ISO rather than an install.

I don't see why it matters. Once you have booted you are working from a live file system. How you get to this live file system is not relevant. From an ISO, from a CD or from a USB device ... you end up in the same place.

Well you know USM, and Porteus, a whole lot better than I do, or ever will. You don't have a problem with the LIBS.TXT file missing running USM from your install. I have the problem running from two different Porteus versions and two different USM versions booted from two different ISOs. It's the main difference I can see between our experiences.

My hard drive is formatted with NTFS, I have a save.dat file and modules certainly different than you but in Always Fresh mode they shouldn't matter.

If there is anything you want me to run that will help identify the problem let me know.

PS I'm in 64 bit mode not 32 bit if that helps.

Ok give me a couple of days to try different setups and see if I can reproduce this. In the meantime if anyone else CAN reproduce this I'd like to know how. Thanks.

Thanks. I was finally able to reproduce this. It happens only on 64bit when selecting mozilla-firefox-31.5.0esr-i486-1_slack14.1.txz. The LIBS.TXT file for 64bit is showing mozilla-firefox-31.4.0esr-i486-1_slack14.1.txz instead of the 31.4 version. I am currently booted into an ISO but I suspect the result will be the same once I have booted by hard/usb drive. I am updating the databases now to see if the problem persists.

EDIT:
Looking at the timestamps on the sourceforge website I can see that the 64bit LIBS.TXT is one month older than the 32bit. Probably an error in the automated system. Working on it now.

EDIT:
FIxed. Tested from 64bit ISO and after updating to current database firefox resolves. Thanks for testing.

Wow!! Thanks brokenman.

But I also get the Fatal error LIBS.TXT file msg when attempting to download flash-player-plugin-11.2.202.451.x86_64-lst.txz from slacky. Same fix?

-edit-

Apparently so. Updated the USM dbs, recycled USM, retried flash and it worked!! :Yahoo!:
