Porteus

Hello,

I'm looking TV from my notebook with Porteus.

Before : On Porteus v1.1, I was able to look TV from multicast IP address. How I did ? I ran a specific DHCP client, I got an address, and I set the routes. Then, I ran VLC and everything was OK. I could look TV on my notebook.

After : I just updated "vmlinuz", "initrd", "Porteus-1.2.sgn" and "000-kernel.xzm" files. I boot porteus but I cannot see any UDP packet from wireshark when I set the previous configuration. VLC is working but packets don't come...

I have some ideas :
- Driver issue ? I can surf to the web...
- DHCP issue ? I get a valid address...
- Kernel (network) configuration issue ? With "sysctl -a", I get :

Hello,

I got the answer. The kernel was compiled without MULTICAST support this time....

This is the method I use :

root@porteus # modprobe configs && zcat /proc/config.gz > porteus.config
root@porteus # less porteus.config | grep CONFIG_IP_MULTICAST

# CONFIG_IP_MULTICAST is not set

On version 1.1, I got :
CONFIG_IP_MULTICAST=y

Therefore, I can't see any solution for my issue but to stay in version 1.1... Is it possible to enable multicasting for next versions ? It should be great.

hello svqb,

i was fairly sure this is a kernel config as i have stripped a lot from it and going to enable extra features on users request (to check what's really needed).
so far i have got requests only for bonding support and multicasting so it's not that bad

will enable both in first rc of porteus-2.0 (should be ready in few weeks).
