Hi,
I have 2 issues with Porteus v5.01 X86_64 XFCE. Guest session
I started in always fresh mode and with base_only.
Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/porteus64bit_v501/boot/syslinux/vmlinuz from=/dev/sda3/porteus64bit_v501 base_only resume=/dev/sda3 resume_offset=4268032 login=guest copy2ram ramsize=14% zram=43% noswap noauto
1)The first one is that network manager is brocken because right mouse on applet and 'enable networking is gray, forbidden, broken. I cannot go to he internet, neither by wifi, neither with the hotspot usb ( althought mtp work fine)
2) I cannot shutdown neither restart from guest session because it is gray. I have to log out before shutdown or restart
here is the configuration
Code: Select all

In your Always Fresh mode try with just these boot parms:
Code: Select all
BOOT_IMAGE=/porteus64bit_v501/boot/syslinux/vmlinuz from=/dev/sda3/porteus64bit_v501 base_only

Hi, Terminal open the list but nm-applet still inactive and still gray 'enable Networking
Although in root I can enable 'enable Networking' and 'enable wifi' it doesn't see wifi network because 'device not ready
And logout still gray Restart, Shutdown, and delete the suspend like this
Only root can shutdown restart, suspend, hibernate.

@benjibasson
It seems that something is changing permissions for guest. Does the porteus/base folder contain any modules besides the stock Porteus modules?
If the porteus/rootcopy folder contains any files, you have to include the norootcopy cheatcode on the command line along with base_only.

Hi roadie, no: the porteus/base doesn't contain any module besides the stock Porteus Module.
I confirm the /rootcopy is empty.

Not a bug per se,
but it bugs me. Rava being in the process of installing the exploded Porteus-XFCE-v5.01-x86_64.iso…
I saved all md5sum or sha256 checksum text files locally and renamed them all since there can be only one
highlander file with the same name in one directory, while I put all modules and the iso in one directory for ease of workflow; with the exception of some extracted stuff that goes elsewhere (e.g. kernel, initrd and cheatcodes.txt)
So I have these files with all the checksums:
Code: Select all
root@rava:/mybin/linux/porteus/5.0.1/x86-64# ls -o *txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 guest 514 2023-09-25 14:32 md5sums-bundles.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 guest 2139 2023-09-26 15:15 sha256sums-modules.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 guest 775 2023-09-25 14:31 sha256sums-iso.txt
and
I try to determine if the sha256sum or md5sum of initrd.xz is correct. But no luck, no checksum for initrd:
Code: Select all
root@rava:/mybin/linux/porteus/5.0.1/x86-64# grep initrd *txt
root@rava:/mybin/linux/porteus/5.0.1/x86-64# echo $?
1
root@rava:/mybin/linux/porteus/5.0.1/x86-64#
Can someone please provide me with the sha256sum and/or md5sum of initrd.gz?
I renamed my initrd accordingly and this is
my sha256sum :
Code: Select all
1b1bc2acb98c7bf985129b5ccc38560961ee98068b379f22759ccdc0a52f45be initrd5.0.1.xz
and
that is its md5sum:
Code: Select all
720467f70aa87452da234055a64f933d initrd5.0.1.xz
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I don't understand: when I do base_only and norootcopy there is no bug and when I do base_only without norootcopy there is the bug: although rootcopy is empty
what should be the right of rootcopy?
Should I extract again the iso and keep initial right even if it is annoying to be root to add modules in modules folders or copy /home/guest in rootcopy?

what should be the right of rootcopy?
You mean its file mode bits?
porteus/rootcopy should be like so:
Code: Select all
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2048 2023-08-13 00:25 rootcopy/
owner root group root
I break it down from left to right in groups of 4 or 3 characters:
drwx means: directory - read for user - write for user - execute for user
r-x means: read for group - no-write for group - execute for group
r-x means: read for other - no-write for other - execute for other
This rwxr-xr-x can also be written in octal as 0755 as
would show you (it also shows it as drwxr-xr-x)

Thanks beny, when your sha256sum of your initrd and of my initrd match then all is well.
Now onwards finishing the setup process (mainly editing porteus.cfg) and checking paths and filenames more than once, then reboot.
